I may not always agree with you 100%, but I can tell from the all years I've been a TET blog reader, that you say nothing "off the cuff". I look forward to meeting you in person, whether on earth, or certainly in glory.

I do appreciate this response, as it makes a lot of sense. Yes, the SBC - indeed, honestly, every "camp" of Biblical Christianity - has tolerated wrong teaching and sin for far too long. I know this is sad to say, but as I read your list, I said "oh yeah, I forgot about that!" to myself a couple times. That is sad, that the problems are so numerous, I'm losing track!

"It [tolerated sin] clouds the thinking and destroys the foundational integrity"... Yes, I understand what you are saying, it's a cumulative effect. And I believe also an anesthetizing effect as well. No wonder the Lord says, when He comes, the virgins are all asleep.

The verse that has my attention right now, given all of this, is that judgment begins in the house of the Lord... 1 Peter 4:17 Perhaps we are starting to see - or will soon start to see - but I think it's the former - the beginning of the judgment.

Oh Lord, in Your wrath, remember mercy.

-CarolynAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2736720231951988221.post-34729194774808361352018-06-12T10:37:31.252-04:002018-06-12T10:37:31.252-04:00Thank you for reading and rereading, Your'e a ...Thank you for reading and rereading, Your'e a careful reader and a thoughtful commenter.

I agree, it's concerning that men are proposing these things. Some of it I suppose is in response to the MeToo movement, and shock at Paine Patterson's firing. Other than that it is a response to sin, tolerated too long in the SBC, sin as in heaven tourism books and preaching; mystical practices like contemplative prayer and circle making; direct revelation; allowing women to usurp men; watered down Gospel; seeker sensitive churches, and all the rest. SBC churches are as guilty as any, and have allowed it for too long. Once you tolerate sin, it clouds the thinking and destroys the foundational integrity. I think we are seeing a collapse now. It won't be finalized in an instant, but it's happening and once critical mass of a Jenga Tower is reached, you know what happens.Elizabeth Pratahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04341086233512507156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2736720231951988221.post-89915812537761266022018-06-12T10:24:19.064-04:002018-06-12T10:24:19.064-04:00Hi Elizabeth,
I've literally read and re-read...Hi Elizabeth,

I've literally read and re-read this post, along with the parts 2 & 3 of Christian feminism, several times.

I will admit I never have given this issue of "feminism in the church" a whole lot of serious thought. I always have understood - thanks to the Lord - that BM's teachings were off the mark. Furthermore, for some reason - again thanks to the Lord - I never have been attracted to or interested in BM, Shirer, or any other of these "women's ministry" teachers. I always just dismissed it all, never attended their studies or read their books, and went my own way (with my husband, of course).

But now, as I ponder these posts, I find myself getting very concerned. In part, because you cited two references at the top of this post that surprised me. Two *men* - Russell Moore, and the pastor who wrote the CT article (McKissic) - are the ones heralding the call for a woman as SBC president.

In particular, I read McKissic's "argument" in favor of a female SBC leader, and found it greatly lacking. As it reads, he is looking for every which way to duck and dodge and get around the very clear teaching of 1 Tim, about God forbidding women to teach or have authority over men in the church.

I don't accept the flawed reasoning that because there isn't a "specific chapter and verse" about a parachurch ministry - or for that matter, a Sunday school teacher, or a worship team leader - that it means we can accept women in these positions. The verses in 1 Tim that prohibit a woman from teaching or having authority over men are to be followed in the church, period. Those verses aren't just about the pulpit. They are about the entirety of the spiritual realm of the church as a whole. That means no women leaders over mixed gender ministries (and that would include denominational, parachurch, etc), no women teaching mixed SS, no women music ministry "leaders" leading mixed congregational worship, etc. It is so clear, and so simple, it puzzles me when I encounter a believer who doesn't believe/accept/understand it.

What astonishes me is why would *men*, including pastors, be promoting the idea of "women leaders"? That I don't understand. Whatever the reason, it's very wrong thinking.

Thank you for making this issue of "Christian" feminism more visible, especially for believers like me who just didn't realize the negative impact it was having on the church.

-CarolynAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2736720231951988221.post-58061273076204882052018-06-10T18:38:17.969-04:002018-06-10T18:38:17.969-04:00Hi Elizabeth,

I told my husband that, and he exclaimed (rather loudly, which is quite unusual for him), "WHAAAAAT?"

Anyhow, you are correct. BM teaching is leaven, and the Bible says a little leaven with leaven the whole lump.

Your warning about the Revelation church of Thyatira is wisdom to be heeded, for sure!

-CarolynAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
