As pointed out, there are no examples of believers killing themselves in the bible. There is a warning in Genesis 9:6 for those who take an innocent life, so God takes murder, even in this case, self murder, very serious.

The born from above follower of Christ may get depressed, and we do. This life is filled with sorrow, heartache, trials, etc. There is no lasting joy, BUT, the true believer looks PAST this life and sets their minds on things above [Col. 3:2]. The mind that is filled with His word and guided by His Spirit should never consider murdering self as an 'answer' to whatever has got them down.
This is from A.W. Thank you for this post.
Recently I...Hi Elizabeth!

Thank you for this post.
Recently I had to go through examining this topic because of being closely involved in a family situation.

I believe for us believers the most important question is, was he/she truly saved that committed suicide. If their life showed no fruit, and they struggled with personality disorder, mental illness, depression, etc. but at a stage of their lives understood the Gospel, repented, had faith, their sin killing themselves is not bigger or other than someone else's that lied, cheated or did any kind of sin after being born again (from salvation point if view).

And who knows what happens in the last moment facing death. Noone is there, only God and the person.

Since God is in control, nobody can take his/her life out of God's will.

In these situations I think family and close friends find comfort looking up onto the Lord, learning, seeing His character from Scripture. His person is the assurance, that the lost loved one will be exactly where he/she is supposed to be. If they belonged to Christ, not even this kind of death can separate them from the love of the Lord. He sees the heart and thoughts. And He is the True Judge.

How good is this to have such a great God!

Emese

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
