This very subject has been on my mind all week long. When we truly repent and ask Christ to change us. He turns us around and we begin to walk the opposite way. Without us trying, through prayer, behaviors change; interests change; attitudes change. We must pray for the unsaved and the "think-they-are-saved."

Thank you for this take on this very interesting and important scripture. The "god of the fortresses does seduce through words, and I believe images, for images are another form of communication.

I did a recent post on the Marian symbolism in Quito's famous statue El Panecillo. I for one appreciate the explanation here, I may not agree with everything one teaches, but, I can recognize what is good.
I have my own ideas on this suicide by Mary Kennedy, I don't think it had anything to do with her husband, not saying he is an angel. I know he is not, I also know she was not. They relationahip was and up until her death, is, contrary to Catholic teaching. People she as well as he were Adulterers. There is no way that can be erased.
She had some real issues that seems to have been related to this fact. She was jealous of her husband and I believe, partly at least, that was the reason for her alcohol abuse. We know from 2010 when he filed for a divorce, she was depicted as always accusing him, (jealousy) consistently yelling at him, (demeaning him). One, a wife does not do that to her husband if she truly wants him to "cleave unto her", that sort of behavior will cause the same effect that it did.
We know from all reports that she was pregnant at the time of her marriage, 6 months along, a little more than a month after his divorce from his first wife. I believe she connived the whole thing, it is also well documented, that she told several, including her best friend, his sister, that she would indeed one day marry a Kennedy. Of course, at this point in time, 1994, there were no real options available, they were all taken. So, she saw her chance in Bobby because his marriage to his first wife was already all but dissolved, if not legally in every other way. So, I believe she set her cap for him,considering him a catch. He had all of her qualifications, he was a Kennedy, he had money and he was, sort of, available.
As a Catholic, she was taught to be a "good girl" and wait for marriage. We know that did not happen. As a Catholic she was taught that fornication much less adultery was taboo. Again, that did not happen. So, my hypothesis of this is: Mary felt dirty, she went as far as she could and finally cracked. Sad indeed because all she had to do is seek forgiveness from Jesus and accept his atonement for her sins.
There are all sorts of things being said about this sad incident now. Blaming for the most part her husband, but, I don't agree, I believe we should blame the one who deserves the blame. Mary herself doomed herself when she made the decision to go against her teachings and "grab for the Kennedy male, at any cost". What a cost? Her life.
Those children are in need of our prayers now more than ever. If they listen to what is in the press right now, they will become bitter against the only parent they have left. Which would be sad indeed.
I wish this family a time of healing and hope for them good things to come. I also don't think pointing fingers and making accusations will help the situation.

Great comment. Thank you! I should put the word "forgiven" in front of sinner who is saved and "unrepentant" in front of sinner when referring to those going to hell.

After salvation we still sin. The Holy Spirit of God dwells in the believer who is born again and gives the power to not only defeat the effects of the sin nature, but to supply strength to defeat the old sinful nature’s penchant to do wrong in God’s sight. (Galatians 5:16–17).
In Rom 7:17 Paul said, "So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me." He struggled with doing what he didn't want and failed to do what he wanted.

Though we are saints, and though God forgets our sins, and though we have the capacity to resist sin, we still fail to live perfectly. Paul said--

"For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members" (Romans 7:22-23).

This penchant to still sin led him to cry out, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?” (Romans 7:24).

It is only confusing when we think that everyone who names Christ knows him.
That is not a judgement about this "pastor" observable behavior is not the cause of sin it is the result. The cause of sin is the fallen nature of man, his heart that is subject to sin. The only remedy for sin is saving faith in Christ and a decision to follow Him. Which means completely give up on our own ideas, like those that this pastor recommends, and preach the Gospel. This pastor is the evidence of the condition of "the church" in the US.

"Christians have a fierce love for sinners, having been and still are sinners ourselves! Sinners go to hell and hell is serious!" And I want to ask you where it says in the Bible that Christians are STILL sinners? We are called saints! Do we ever sin after becoming a Christian? Yes we do, but we are to repent and confess those sins and the blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. "Sinners" don't repent; they keep on sinning and enjoying their sins. I do cringe when any Christian states, we are still sinners, because, as you said, sinners go to hell.

Fascinating response. You never were a Christian. 1 John 2:19 says if you left us that proves you never were of us. However, hopefully God has not turned you over to your reprobate mind yet so that hopefully there is still time for you to repent.

Living a Christ-like life is sharing the Good News that Jesus saves. From what? Sin., You cannot meet that standard of living a Christ-like life until or unless you have Christ in you. Why? We are all sinners, and are hopelessly lost in sin. It is only Christ in us that helps us live according to His standards.

Living a Christlike life is sharing the bible. The bible says Jesus is coming back to judge sin. If you are afraid of that, good. You should be.

Fascinating blog. I'm always interested in why so many Christians are so excited and anxious to see the world end. The mythological Second Coming, perhaps? While I chucked Christianity years ago, I still believe to be a Christian is to live a Christ-like life. I could meet that standard. Is spreading fear and loathing, distrust and false-prophesy really serving Christ and living a Christ-like life? The world is not going to end in your lifetime, my lifetime or anytime in the foreseeable future. It will end in four or five billion years when the sun goes nova and burns out the solar system.

If we attempt to explain those things that we do not understand are we not foolish? Giving any credence to anything other than examining the causes of these "occurrences" are a good way to be led away from the truth. Some of God's way's are past our finding out. The bigger picture is what are people doing with the evidence? Are they looking to the Lord God Creator and his Word for answers to life's questions or looking to themselves?
No one has benefited more from the use and sale of oil more than the prince and power of the air. In searching for way's to obtain it from deep within the earth, deep water horizon has become an ecological disaster. After reading more about it, it was the search for abiotic oil that led to that drilling site. There is a source for this oil that seems limitless. The lies that have been used to keep people in bondage to the idea that oil is running out is one that distracts people from the real problem that time is the thing that is running out.
The other huge lie is that climate change is pollution generated. I believe that is more of man's sin that is the cause than anything. The sun is the thing that warms the earth. If you look deep enough into all of these things you will find people who are presenting pagan ideas around the worship mother nature who is nothing other than satan himself.

Good question. No, there isn't any particular prophecy as far as I know about Israel attacking Iran first. There is the prophecy in Zechariah 12 that all the world will come against Israel and that Israel will be a burdensome stone to it. And there is the prophecy in Matthew 24 that there will be wars and rumors of wars, and Rev 6 where peace will be taken from the earth.

We know the Isaiah 17 prophecy against Damascus, Isaiah 19 about Egypt, Psalm 83 and Gog Magog. Those wars will set the Middle East aflame. None of them are clear as to timing- in other words, all 4 could take place before the Tribulation. Only Ez 38-39 (Gog Magog) will finish in the Tribulation, or at least is the threshold for it, because God shows Himself holy through His saving of Israel and it is this act that returns Israel to covenant relationship with Him. If Israel is in Covenant relationship with God then the Tribulation has begun because it is the resumption of the last 7 years as prophesied by Daniel 9 and it's Old Testament times again.

Prophecy is so interesting in that as many specifics as God gave us, there is a lot we don't know. For example, note Isaiah 17, it is in the passive tense. It just states Damascus will be completely destroyed overnight, nothing about who does it. We all assume it will be Israel but the prophecy doesn't state that. However, given that it will be destroyed so suddenly and quickly, we can deduce from that clue that it is something like a military action, such as a nuke, but even then, there are creative ways to flatten a city that God knows of that we don't. Maybe it will be an earthquake. Maybe it will be the Syrian rebels who gain control of the nuclear bomb and accidentally set it off. Who knows?

The temperature in the Middle East is white hot, and it would not take much to set off a series of events that lead directly and quickly to the end time prophesied battles. Israel may make a pre-emptive attack against Iran. It may be enough that it LOOKS like Israel may attack for Iran to attack first that prompts Hamas or Hezbollah into action. It may be that Israel is planning to attack Lebanon (Hamas) so the talk of attacking Iran is a diversion. It may be that Russia attacks the West in the Baltics pre-emptively as they have already threatened because of the NATO shield (which went live yesterday). Who knows? God knows! And by the look of things we may see the final roll-out pretty soon.

You realize that the Catholics' prayers for a person after their death is completely unbiblical, right? The Catholic teaching of Purgatory for temporary punishment, only to be prayed out later, is a false and unbiblical teaching. It is appointed for a person to die once, then the judgment, Hebrews 9:27 says.

Jesus's discussion of Lazarus and the rich man further paints the picture that after we die, we reach our eternal destination. (Luke 16:19-31) Period. We are either in heaven, or hell, and no amount of prayer can change that. There is a great gulf fixed...and there is no movement from one to the other.

(Though is a Christian kills him or herself, though it is a sin, it is not a sin that disqualifies them from heaven).

Also you need to understand that if a Catholic person adheres to the teachings of the Catholic Church and follows the Pope, they will themselves go to hell. Catholicism is a false religion, as false as Buddhism or Islam.

The hope of obtaining God's mercy is in life. The time to pray for a suicide victim is in life. Not after death. By then, it is too late.

Thank you for posting this. This subject is close to my heart because I know personally of the protection of God in my own life. I myself attempted to end my own life when I was 13 years old because of despair. Although nobody knew and no one was there with me to talk me out f it, the Lord himself rescued me. As I was ready to pull the trigger and end it all, I heard God´s small voice inside telling me to put the gun down and telling me that: "as long as there is life there is hope". That was in 1956 in Algeria. 10 years later in the USA, when I experienced the new birth, this episode came back to me as well as many more when the Lord saved my life and protected me although I was not a believer, until then. We never know, God is sovereign, but one thing is sure, he told us to speak up and share with others the reason for the hope that is in us and what better time to do than when someone has lost all hope for life.Jean-Louis.
