It's all in the motivation and ...Hi Anonymous,

It's all in the motivation and attitude. And understanding. Many women journal because they are told that doing do IS the sanctification. It isn't. It isn't an activity that brings us closest to Jesus or farther away. It isn't the activity that is important, but knowing that writing or drawing is a response to the truth of the word.

Some of the examples above are coloring activities from other religions. We have to be discerning about importing false things and mixing them with the word of God.

I am not a fan of defacing Bibles like the examples above, in putting our own paintings over His words. But that's my preference. I think that responding with personal thoughts or insightful connections to what you read there, or drawing a visual aid to help remember is perfectly fine. After all, in a sense when I write about a verse here on the blog it also is a response to what I've read, just in a different medium. We're always responding.

I don't know why Bibles have to have stand alone coloring pages. It seems like that diminishes the august word of God, and makes infantile play out of it. But again, that's my perspective. :)Elizabeth Pratahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04341086233512507156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2736720231951988221.post-35575798923935063842016-12-07T17:22:18.416-05:002016-12-07T17:22:18.416-05:00I have been considering the journaling, as mention...I have been considering the journaling, as mentioned by a poster above, with only the side margins for drawing and/or thoughts. I have no desire for painting/drawing over the text! Also, one of the Bibles also includes "separate" stand alone pages of verses flowers/verses etc to color by themselves. Thoughts appreciated.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2736720231951988221.post-65838504421143007862016-03-04T13:02:38.943-05:002016-03-04T13:02:38.943-05:00thank you Elisabeth for your comment. I did some googling and discovered this blog. I agree, covering God's word is not okay. That was my very first thought, "but now you cannot read the words underneath." As for mandalas, I did not know what a mandala represented until reading this. Man gives the mandala its meaning. Since a mandala has no special meaning to me, and I don't share those same beliefs, I do think coloring a mandala is innocent. To me, a mandala is only shapes that make an interesting artistic design. The women's group at my very small church did a one time workshop on Bible journaling and the turnout was HUGE. I have some mixed feelings. I'm something of an artist and am drawn to this (lol pun), but am uneasy about covering up the Bible text with art. I do highlight in my Bible though and on rare occasions write a note in the margin and feel ok about that... Hmmm, matter of individual conscience? I'm considering buying a Bible with a half page margin for the purpose of "journaling". Maybe.
