I came across this many years ago and am telling by memory. “A church member, over a few months, had begun to miss more and more services. The pastor took noticed and became alarmed as the member was a faithful attendee and worker in the church. The pastor asked to come visit and was invited to do so. The next day, the pastor visited and was led to a chair in front of the fireplace. The pastor got up and began to poke around in the fireplace pulling out a red fiery ember and placing it on the hearth. The pastor sat back into the chair and sat in silence with the church member. After a while, the fiery red ember turned into a cold piece of charcoal. The pastor excused himself and left the residence.
