What I find sad about the Church of Scotland's stance on Israel is that for centuries it has been one of Israel's strongest supporters. At the COS Assembly last week this anti-Israel report was passed by an overwhelming majority, although a few lone traditionalists spoke out bravely against it. It appears that now we are deep in the last days that apostasy is rife in the Church of Scotland. In reading the article it seems to me that it is a pivotal point in their history- whether to identify as Jews or identify as a democratic government (secular). Even at that, there is heated discussion on *which* Judaism to adopt, in other words, what does it even mean to be a Jew in 2013?

Article is worth reading.

http://www.theinternational.org/articles/381-whats-in-a-name-israel-as-a-nationalElizabeth Pratahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04341086233512507156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2736720231951988221.post-72486291063193586752013-05-26T07:25:04.710-04:002013-05-26T07:25:04.710-04:00Hi John,

The first is from The Scotsman, a Scttish news media.

http://www.scotsman.com/news/scottish-news/top-stories/scottish-independence-kirk-critical-of-debate-1-2942021
Rethink calls on Promised Land report are rejected

THE General Assembly has ignored calls by Scottish Jews to rethink a controversial report on the Israel-Palestine situation.

The Church and Society Council’s 'Inheritance of Abraham?' A report on the Promised Land document prompted a storm of controversy around the world when it was first published.

Although primarily about the treatment of Palestinian people by the Israeli government, it was interpreted by Jewish groups as questioning the assumption that the Bible supported the existence of Israel as the Promised Land for Jews.

The report was criticised by the Israeli government as playing into “extremist political positions” and that it had damaged inter-faith relations

-------------------

this second one is from the American conservative news outlet, World Net Daily

http://www.wnd.com/2013/05/church-of-scotlands-revised-israel-report-blasted/?cat_orig=faith

The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities said that, despite recent revisions, the Church of Scotland’s report on Israel remains “unacceptable.”

The report, entitled “The Inheritance of Abraham?,” was endorsed by the church’s general assembly Thursday in Edinburgh. It is a revision of an earlier text the church’s Church and Society Council published earlier this month and then withdrew amid Jewish condemnations of its assertion that Jews have no special claim to Israel. The report further said that Israel should be boycotted and that Western support for Israel is rooted in Holocaust guilt.

---------------------

My comment to all that would be it is consistent with hatred of Jews because it is prophesied that in the end all the world will be against Israel. Anti-semitism is rising fast in Europe and around the world. Replacement Theology is everywhere (which replaces Israel with the church and says God is done with Jews). Constant calls for splitting the Land are heard, because increasingly, people and organizations say Israel has no right tot he Land. Islam is increasing while Christianity is shrinking. Legislative persecution of Jews is increasing, just as it was prior to Hitler's time. It all fits. Nothing about that Church of Scotland report surprises me.

The important thing to watch for is the world reaction to Israel's proposed legislation to identify itself as a nation of Jews, which I linked to in the essay above. With world attitude against Israel rising, and hatred of Jews increasing, their legislation, if it passes, might well be a catalyst for further action.Elizabeth Pratahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04341086233512507156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2736720231951988221.post-77512826390400503282013-05-26T03:45:40.243-04:002013-05-26T03:45:40.243-04:00Hi Elizabeth, thank you for this interesting and i...Hi Elizabeth, thank you for this interesting and informative series on Jerusalem. If you have time I'd be interested in your comments on 'The Inheritance of Abraham?', a report on the promised land published by the Church and Society council of the Church of Scotland, available at www.churchofscotland.org.uk . Thanks, John.johnnoreply@blogger.com
