I've noticed the same thing about "youngness" being put on a pedestal. Whether its im church or my community bible study group, the same talk always goes on.... we MUST get more young people in here; we need young moms coming; we need young women leading, etc.

While I certainly want young ladies around, I can't help but feel bothered by what seems like a marginalizing of anyone over 65. In my community Bible study, there are about 100 of us and I'm one of the youngest ones. I absolutely treasure having so many Godly older ladies around! They teach me so much, even when they arent in a role of teacher or leader! I appreciate them so much, yet I feel like they are not acknowledged openly for their wisdom and Christlike examples. I let them know individually as often as I can, which seems to make their day.

I agree we need more young people around and it seems to be on the decline. But I believe it's a mistake to ever focus on seeking out a particular age demographic when it comes to either sharing the Gospel OR bringing into "leadership" at church for teaching and such. And we lose so much by overlooking older ladies for such opportunities. They're not washed up at 70 or 80! They're more ready for it than ever! The Bible makes clear the importance of older women. You have to wonder if this mentality we see isn't some kind of work of Satan himself, much in the same way he's trying to destroy the family, marriage, or the lines of truth in all things. I pray this will change.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
