The "Learning" Channel has a new show called "Toddlers and Tiaras." It centers on two-and-three-year-olds participating in beauty pageants. The show bio goes like this:
"On any given weekend, on stages across the country, little girls and boys parade around wearing makeup, false eyelashes, spray tans and fake hair to be judged on their beauty, personality and costumes. Toddlers and Tiaras follows families on their quest for sparkly crowns, big titles, and lots of cash. The preparation is intense as it gets down to the final week before the pageant. From hair and nail appointments, to finishing touches on gowns and suits, to numerous coaching sessions or rehearsals, each child preps for their performance. But once at the pageant, it's all up to the judges and drama ensues when every parent wants to prove that their child is beautiful."
How can natural beauty be judged when there is a pile of makeup, fake hair, fake tans, and fake smiles? When reality tv like Jon and Kate Plus 8 (kids) put their youngsters in the national and international spotlight, a magnifying glass really, the meltdowns are inevitable. The couple announced their divorce while the Pennsylvania Child Labor is investigating the couple for overworking their kids. We in this country have turned children into a commodity. And I'm not the only one who thinks so ... my opinion is that tarting up a two year old so the parents can win a pot of money is pimping them out for gain. I don't want to hear about how the two year old gains "poise", either.
Hosea prophesied for the Lord. He said in chapter 4:
"I will not punish your daughters when they turn to prostitution,
nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery,
because the men themselves consort with harlots
and sacrifice with shrine prostitutes—
a people without understanding will come to ruin!
Colossians 3:21- Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
Ephesians 6:4- Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Cherish the children. Don't exploit them. Mark 9:42: "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea."
