A new movie is released this month called Legion. "After God loses faith in humanity, the archangel Michael is the only one standing between mankind and the apocalypse. This time using angels as the act of Biblical judgment, God's wrath descends on Earth to exterminate the world's population. In a desperate, last-chance gambit, Michael leads a group of strangers to a small New Mexico diner to protect a young waitress who may be pregnant with Christ in his second coming."
Another synopsis says: "An out-of-the-way diner becomes the unlikely battleground for the survival of the human race. When God loses faith in humankind, he sends his legion of angels to bring on the Apocalypse. Humanity's only hope lies in a group of strangers trapped in a desert diner with the Archangel Michael."
The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. (1 Tim 4:1 NIV) What better demonic doctrine than one that teaches that God abandons humanity? That the holy angels rebel against God? That Christ is being born again, as if the first time didn't take? That God would kill His own child? That an angel needs to correct God's poor decision?
Not surprisingly, the director doesn't believe in satan and doesn't believe in hell. But it is equally obvious that satan believes in him.
Michael is mentioned five times in the bible. He gave a message to Daniel (Daniel 10:13,21;12:1). He contends with the devil (Jude 1:9). He fights with the dragon (Revelation 12:7). But these five verses tell us much about the character of the angel Michael. In the Daniel verses, Michael reveals that he is the chief of princes, that he fights the invisible principalities and that despite being a chief prince of God, he can be delayed by strong demons.
In Jude we learn that although Michael is an archangel (archaggelos or chief angel) he so fully submits to God that he refuses even to utter a direct word of rebuke against satan.
In Revelation we see that Michael fights satan in satan's rebellion against God's holy kingdom. It is Michael that prevailed for God, and satan is fallen down out of heaven, forever.
In "Legion", however, the Word is perverted. There are names we are familiar with; God, Michael, Gabriel, but they are corrupted from the truth to a lie. In one exchange, Michael and Gabriel are talking,
"Michael: I knew He'd send you, Gabriel. You were always so eager to please Him." Gabriel: "Unlike you... the rebellious son."
In fact, the rebellious angel is Lucifer, not Michael. (Isaiah 14:12-15) The fallen angels (and demons and vampires) are not heroes. And Michael certainly isn't fallen. He is a loyal servant of God till the end (Rev 12).
It is interesting the movie creators chose the name legion. Legion is also in the bible referenced in context of demons in Mark 5:9 "And He was asking him, "What is your name?" And he said to Him, "My name is Legion; for we are many." How many? A Roman Legion was upwards of 6000 men. However in the movie the bible is turned upside down again. 'Fallen angel' Michael, is disobeying God but for good reasons, which makes it OK. He is 'saving' us humans whom God has 'lost faith' in. Michael battles the 'legion of death' (God's holy angels) who are coming to earth (obeying God's will) to exterminate humanity (cleanse the world of sin) by executing God's wrath (poor decision on God's part.) The good angels doing God's will are the bad guys and the rebelling angel (Michael) is the good guy. See? Bible perverted again.
These kind of movies invariably have the phrase somewhere in the trailer or the tagline "our only hope" as in our only hope being something other than Jesus - which is yet another doctrine of demons. But the truth is Psalm 62:5 "My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him." Mature Christians know that apart from Jesus there is no hope. But these movies are not targeted to mature Christian adults.
These many movies, books, and tv programs pollute the youth. This is no accident. While young adults are the movie industry's best customers and those under 30 make up the majority of the target demographic, not coincidentally, church youth are the most at-risk of apostasy. They are leaving the church in droves. A major study by American Research Group found that nearly 40 percent of the surveyed twentysomethings first had doubts about the Bible in middle school. Another 43.7 percent said they first doubted that all of the accounts and stories in the Bible are true during their high school years. Media that continually hammer falsity into our youths' hearts and minds are cementing the doubts that satan germinates. Who can withstand such a constant onslaught? The sad proof is that our youth cannot and are not.
Ken Ham and Britt Beemer wrote a book based on that research, "Already Gone: Why your kids will quit church and what you can do to stop it," finds church youth already are "lost" in their hearts and minds in middle and high school – not in college as many assume. The hemorrhaging from church is by youths who have regularly attended church and Sunday School all their lives. Satan will "deceive even the elect if possible." (Mt 24:24). It not coincidence that the movie battleground is being fought through the field of youth, who are going to these demonic movies in droves. Who can fail to be swayed by what they see and what they hear over and over and over and over... "A lie told often enough becomes the truth." Demons are good. Vampires are misunderstood. The bible was written by men. Our only hope lies in global warming/men/working together...
What can you do? If you are a parent then do not allow your teens to see these movies or tv programs. If they are young adults, then have a talk with them about the implications of allowing doctrines of demons into their mind. If you are a Youth Pastor then you are undoubtedly aware of the treacherousness of today's culture and its poisonous effects on youth. We all can pray, and we should be doing that. We know that there is a battle going on, and our youth are in satan's cross-hairs.
Meanwhile, also slated for release this month, is The Book of Eli, "A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind. a lone hero, Eli guards the Book of Eli, which provides knowledge that could redeem society. The trailer opens with... "They say the war tore a hole in the sky...only a few survived. Our only hope is in my hands...the Book of Eli."
Fight for these kids! Satan sure as hell is!

ReplyDelete"You are a nutcase. It's just a movie, for entertainment. If you believe that what is in a movie is deemed true, you are the one with problems.
I watched it and didn't think anything of the religious aspects of the movie. I just thought : God is pissed, Michael doesn't believe what god thinks, gabriel is a suck-up, michael changes gods mind, everybody happy. BING BANG BOOM. The movie made millions. Whoop di doo.
Now, about god and religion and such. The reason why youths are not believing this religion crap is because that's all it is. Religion is something that was invented because everybody needs to believe in something and someone took advantage of it to control a huge mass of people.
Look at all the wars religion has caused, look at the oppression religion has had on science and evolution. Many scientists were tortured to say that everything they had done was lies, because religion said different to their findings. Thousands were killed because they refused to believe the crap coming out of the priests mouth.
I'd rather be a youth that doesn't believe in something people could have done so many horrible things for.
I'm 21, not religious, happy."
Anonymous, I agree the movie is entertainment, designed to make money. However, the media influences the mind. If that was not the case then why did the Axis and the Allied powers spend billions in WWII on propaganda? Hollywood and Madison Avenue spend billions on advertisements today hoping to influence you. If that were not so why clamor to be part of the Super Bowl commercials?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you think that believing in a higher power is a "bunch of crap." But the movie is based on a lie. The writers used real biblical characters but changed them from serving God to rebelling against Him. What do *you* call it when someone takes a real thing and purposely changes it to the opposite?
As far as religion causing wars, Ray Comfort wrote:
"Religion was a major cause of war was in Europe and the Islamic Empire during the Middle Ages. But even then, wars were being fought elsewhere in the world for other reasons, such as in Asia. In recent centuries, religion has been simply one minor cause among others for some minor wars. Major causes of major wars have been conflict over territory, ethnic grievances, honor, greed, and power. There was no religious component to World Wars I and II, nor the Korean and Vietnam Wars. "
and--
"Most contemporary democide, far greater than any historical cases, has been by free thinkers, i.e., those who believe that the established religions are superstitions, and one should be scientific, objective, rational, etc. Communism is a case in point, where out of the 174,000,000 murder 1900 to 1999, about 110,000,000 were by communists, who are professed atheists. Democide is largely a matter of power, not religion. "
Anonymous, you said, "Religion is something that was invented because everybody needs to believe in something and someone took advantage of it to control a huge mass of people." That is partly true. Jesus liberates from the bondage of sin. Actually it is the religion of atheism in which people are being controlled. Satan has got those people in the palm of his hand and controls them through building strongholds in their mind- strongholds that accept sin and profanity and untruth and atheism as normal. There are only two paths, Jesus said, those who are not with Him are against Him and if you are outside Jesus' umbrella, satan has got you, a controlled slave to sin
You think you are happy without "religion" (and there is a difference in religion and peace through knowing Jesus) but you are not. Your profanity, anger, and harsh attitude indicate a turmoil within. Jesus can fix that. When you feel empty, and like "nothing's worth it" or that "nothing matters" Jesus can give you that fulfillment. Just ask for Him to forgive your sins and He will comfort you forever.
I'm really glad you read the essay and commented. Comment anytime, just keep it G-rated please
i watched this movie and enjoyed it. it is a work of fiction meant to be entertaining not to be taken as canon. i also enjoyed your article i found it quite amusing. i am 26 and have been agnostic for a few years, not sure whether to believe or not. i don't like to judge people for their beliefs or lack thereof but extremist views like yours are a bit comical, i bet you think harry potter is evil too. aside from our differing viewpoints your article was well written and i wish you well. i apologize for my lack of capitalization and poor use of punctuation, writing has never been among my stronger suits.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading Jonathan. Yes, wizards are evil, condemned by the bible. "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer," Deuteronomy 18:10.
ReplyDeleteThe word extremist is actually a compliment. Radical if you please, meaning I want to change the status quo and take risks- I want my faith in Jesus to guide every part of tmy life, not be one of those who have compartmentalized my Christianity and settled for a lukewarm faith that makes no personal demands outside of Sunday mornings. [excerpted from Wesley Report]. Then, yes, that's me :)
I know that my views are comical. I used to be like you, laughing at fundies who bible thump and rail against the culture of the day. I used to think that bible-thumpers were mentally deficient, emotionally stunted narrow minded extremists who had no place in modern culture. Harsh, but that's what I thought. Not so long ago either... Now I am one of them, thanks to Jesus. Amazing Grace, that saved a wretch like me.
Best to you Jonathan. Keep reading if you wish and comment anytime.
A PS to Jonathan and Anonymous:
ReplyDeleteWhen we all disappear suddenly, and it will happen soon, right from our airplane seats and cars and desks and homes, with no explanation, come back here and read the top left gadget titled "Left Behind Letters." Though I pray that you both will allow the Holy Spirit to work in your lives and let the Light to shine in to Truth, and that you will NOT be left behind. But if you are...read those letters to see what to do next.
Not to be mistaken, I'm not an atheist. I do believe in a higher force, which like I said is ok. I just don't believe as radically as you do. I don't follow a books rules to the letter because that does not make any sense. I have a moral code that I follow and its good enough that I don't do to others if I don't want it to be done to me. That's pretty much the main rule. I know its in the bible but I don't follow it because of that. I follow it because it makes perfect sense. I'm not saying that whats in the bible is all crap, I'm saying that I don't need a book to set the rules of my life.
ReplyDeleteYou say that extremism is good? What about the extremist muslims who blow themselves up for their god. Is that good too? because that is also extremism, therefore it is not a compliment.
As for harry potter... That's is freaking hilarious! It's a book, again for entertainment about a young boy who has been through a lot and has to defeat a bad guy who is challenging the fate of wizards... Do you really believe that this is wrong? That's really really funny. Just because early christians burned red heads at the stake because they though they were witches doesn't mean anything... Explain that to me, how is it ok to burn someone alive, to drown them, because they are different? Just because their hair was a different colour, does that make it ok?
Back to harry potter for a second, how is he bad, he is a young boy trying to defeat an evil villain! Doesn't that make him good?
Now to continue on this subject, since you are an extremist, what are your views on Homosexuals? Do you think they should all burn in hell and die for what their brains chemistry has forced onto them?
I'm awaiting your reply! I even have this page bookmarked now! lol...
Thank you for the bookmark! I do follow the Good Book’s precepts to the letter. If I dispense with this letter or that letter, how am I to know which is the RIGHT letter to dispense with and which is the wrong one? Answer is, I don’t. But God knows. He is a higher power. You say you believe in a higher power, acknowledging His higher powerfulness, but then decide that your own moral code is better than his Higher one, and that you can make better decisions for yourself than his Higher knowledge, effectively that your knowledge is better than His. That, to me, makes no sense. Either He is a higher power or He isn’t.
ReplyDeleteYou need to re-read the rest of the extremist comment. I’ll repeat it here. “By radical, I mean I want to change the status quo and take risks- I want my faith in Jesus to guide every part of my life, I do not want to compartmentalize my Christianity and settled for a lukewarm faith that makes no personal demands outside of Sunday mornings.” THAT kind of faith is considered extremist today, as you indicated. I said nothing about killing people.
It was not all right for the Catholics to burn witches. It is not all right to murder. That was wrong. The bible says that if you “resist the devil he will flee from you.” We do not need stakes and fires to make satan go away. Jesus did it already.
You say Harry Potter is a young boy, trying to kill evil. He is a wizard though, and the bible says that sorcery is evil. It is my choice not to read books that depict as all right what the bible says is not all right. David slew Goliath. Daniel was saved in the Lion’s Den, I prefer those stories about young boys resisting evil and relying on God for their actions. What goes into your mind either lifts you or poisons you. Our conversation is about the difference in standard of what you believe is poisonous and what is not.
Let’s get to the point of it all: sin. No one who sins can get into heaven. What is sin? Anything we think, say or do that displeases God. Murder, I think we all recognize that is wrong. Gossiping is sin too. Huh? Yep, Jesus said that when you gossip it’s like murdering them (their character.) Lying, stealing. Lusty people, and not just the sex act, but even thinking about it- fantasizing about sex with someone not your wife. All sins.
You say you have a moral code. Jesus does too. His is much, much higher than ours, though. As a matter of fact, we cannot attain heaven because we all sin. I mean, really, against His standard of even thoughts against someone as being like murder, it becomes obvious we cannot live an entire life without sinning once! Every human on the face of the earth sins. Did you ever lie? Even once? To your mom or girlfriend, even just to say ‘yeah, that dress looks good on you’? Did you ever look at a girl in lust? Did you ever take something, even a pen from work? Answer could be yes to any one, or all three, so that means you are a lying, thieving fornicator but are worthy of heaven? Of course not.
Homosexuality is listed as a sin, among all the others I just mentioned. Jonathan, hell is so bad that I do not wish for ANYONE to go there. No one. God doesn’t either, He said so in II Peter 3:9 – “God is not willing that any should perish."
The tragedy is that all the people who will end up in hell literally had to push aside Jesus’ dead body to get there. He is the only person who never sinned, and therefore is the only worthy one to pay for ours. You are forgiven of your sins, Jesus’ work on the cross attained that. All you need to do is be sorry for lying and gossiping and stealing etc, and ASK Him to forgive them. Make Him the Lord of your life after accepting Him as savior. And then the scales will fall from your eyes and all this that I just said will cease to amuse you and will suddenly seem very, very, important and very, very right.
Im a 21 year old Mexican young man who believes every religioun is a way to get to God and understand him but wut ppl miss is that its our Faith in God and his son our Lord and Personal Saviour Jesus Crist through which we can yet see who we really are religion is a way to help put that Faith in pple lives but it is up to our Heart courage reality of the fact that God and the Devil are real.....we the people need to open our eyes with our Faiths to help guide us to Eternal Salvation......Michael....
ReplyDeleteYou know what I see here. You are saying that this movie is demonic and evil and goes against the word. IT IS FICTION!!!!!!!!!!Do you seriously believe everything everyone tells you? There may be some symbolism behind it, but look at our world. It is such a horrible world. You, the hypocritical Christians who pretend to be so perfect on Wednesdays and Sundays, but judge people on Fridays for not being exactly who you think believers should be!I AM A BELIEVER!!!I love God and worship him exactly how I want to, not how the church tells me to. So you are just the most perfect Christian for reading into the subliminal messages of LEGION... Watch out kids Satan is coming for you. I'm probably sure you see these blogs and say to yourself "I am the better person and shall pray for these poor souls, Lord please open there eyes." That is such bull you are not in control of who God decides is good or evil. Stop being so full of yourself and say how children are getting demented for people who don't go to church! The kids that are forced with this religion grow up with such a close-mind!!! All I have left to say is you pushed my button way farther than the stupid movie LEGION, I love God but that doesn't mean I have to be so hypocritical about it as you are. And don't you dare pray for me, I pray to God for myself and I don't need your petty prayers!!!!!
ReplyDeletein the name of the Lord our God YAHWEH and Lord Jesus, what I have understood through out my life is that movies ,new age movement, golden age, they are all after Lucifer. the best part is that we humans are very easily deceived by the movies LEGION, twilight etc and we humans are vulnerable to decption.
ReplyDeleteBIBLE is what it is the WORD of the LORD- nothing more and nothing less. Every Christian should know what is the truth and what is not
Fear of the LORD is the begining of the WISDOM
Let Christ Jesus be with us in everything we do
PRAISE THE LORD FOREVER AND EVER
One could argue that Michael in the movie symbolized Jesus, in coming to save man form their own wickedness. It could be further symbolic as the second coming Michael also thought to be jesus in the bible, according to bible theology, the "legion" arriving could be the years of tribulation leading to the raising of christ in the flesh the second time and beggining the 1000 year reign to be followed by judgement day. And if the child was not jesus he could've been a prophet meant to usher in the 1000 year reign prepare the world for judgement and thereby save mankind
