Is war about to break out in the Middle East?

Psalm 90:10 says the average man's life span is 70 years. I recall the verse in Matt. 24:34 that said the generation of people being born when the first End Times signs appeared would still be alive at the 2nd coming. It is my belief that the first major end times sign was Israel's birth in 1948 and that is the generation of which Jesus spoke. The average man born on that day would live on average to 2018 according to Psalm 90. Subtract 7 years from that date for the seven-year tribulation to take place and we wind up with 2011. It is my personal belief that based on the above verses and also the rapidity with which the signs are birthing, that the rapture could and likely will take place between the next moment and 2011's end.

FYI, the "no one knows the day nor the hour " verse from Mt 24:36-37 is for the Second Coming, not the rapture. I take my stance from this reasoning here. However the rapture is a number driven event, based on a certain number the LORD has in mind to be saved (Romans 11:25). We don't know that number, but we were given signs to watch for, talk about, witness thereof, and look up expectantly for.

If the by-2011 rapture expectancy is correct then that means in rapid succession the Isaiah 17:1 Damascus prophecy will be fulfilled, and the Psalm 83 War will take place, then Gog-Magog. It is my firm belief we will not be around after Gog-Magog because the LORD uses that event to bring Israel back into covenant with Him and the church is not in the picture when the old covenant starts ticking again.

WHO? Psalm 83"With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you- the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot." Edom, Moab and Ammon are Jordan today. Syria. Gebal, and Tyre are in modern Lebanon today. The Amalekites lived in the desert just south of Israel. Saudi Arabia. Philistia settled in Gaza on Israel’s southern border. The descendants of Lot is one way of saying Moab and Ammon, who were the sons of an incestuous union between Lot and his two daughters. The listed countries are all of Israel's next-door neighbors. Since Syria does not participate in the Gog-Magog alliance, speculation is that the Psalm 83 war combined with Isaiah 17:1 "Damascus destroyed" means that Syria may be out of commission after that.

WHO? Gog-Magog: Russia, Iran, Turkey, Armenia, Libya, Ethiopia, Sudan and 'many others with you'.

You see the lists of nations participating in Psalm 83 and Gog-Magog do not overlap. I believe that one or all of the conflicts prophesied to come, will come in 2010-early 2011, which may be bearing this out as we speak.

In the last few days belligerent war rhetoric has increased its heat across Israel and Syria's borders. More than that, materiel is being moved. MidEast rhetoric is always heated but not usually this blunt. In light of the times, and in light of the language of Isaiah 17:1 and Psalm 83's fulfillment, read the following and see if the Spirit doesn't speak to the imminence of the prophecies'  fulfillment:

[Note: this was in German from the Suddeutsche newspaper, translated through babelfish] "Iran developed an atomic warhead for its medium-range missiles according to a newspaper report. According to specialists it could function." Summarizing the German news article, "Quoting a new IAEA summary, the Suddeutsche said the scientist had previously worked in a Soviet nuclear weapons laboratory on advanced warheads. It said both western intelligence services and diplomats had confirmed the connection. The newspaper added that Iran was trying to make a nuclear weapon small enough to fit into one of its Shahab 3 medium-range missiles and was designing a so-called two-point implosion system, which requires only two simultaneously exploding detonators to trigger a nuclear blast."

Israel and Syria Trade War Threats
Longtime enemies Israel and Syria have indulged in some fiery exchanges of rhetoric in the last 24 hours, leading some in the Middle East to fear a new armed conflict may be looming.

Egypt opposes the escalating Israeli harsh tone against any Arab country and its allusions to war

Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the exchange of severe statements recently regarding possible war in the region is a matter of concern and should be stopped. Aboul Gheit outlined, commenting on Israeli statements regarding war against Syria, that Egypt opposes the escalating Israeli harsh tone against any Arab country and its allusions to war, not only as a matter of principle, but also in light of the major negative repercussions aiming at increased tension in the region;

  1. Elizabeth, can you clarify two things for me:
    1) how do you determine that 1948 is the starting of the end times?

    2) how can one discern that "no one will know the hour" is only referring to 2nd coming and does not include the Rapture?

I agree with you on all points, just being a Berean and trying to find the answers myself.

Thanks for all you do, A.H. in Westport, CT

  2. Hello A.H.! :)

God deals with the church and the Jews but never the two at the same time. This is supported by what it says in Acts 15 ‘After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it, that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things known from of old.’ (Acts 15:13-18)

1948 is widely seen as the beginning of the end time- as THE major sign because it is a fulfillment of Isaiah 66:8 "Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Can a land be born in one day? Can a nation be brought forth all at once? As soon as Zion travailed, she also brought forth her sons.” Israel was reborn as a nation, bringing to an end the 1900 year disapora. Israel is the main end times sign because the Tribulation is called the “Time of Jacob’s trouble”. (Jeremiah 30:7) and it is God’s dealing with the Jews in that last 7 years of Daniel’s prophecy of 70 weeks (490 years). The clock stopped at year 483 when Jesus died & rose again.

Next, because Isaiah and Amos both mention the second regathering Isaiah 11:11 and Amos 9:14-15 and that occurred in 1948.

Also, because the prophecy of the Valley of Dry Bones, Ezekiel 37:1-6, and that occurred in 1948.

Deut 4:30 “When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, [even] in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;”

In Mt 24 the major signs that Jesus gave the disciples as to what to look directly point to Israel and the Jews: that the Abomination of desolation would desecrate the temple (meaning that there will be a temple existing), He mentions the biblical name of Judea, and that they should pray it doesn’t happen on a Sabbath (where there are Covenant restrictions against walking too many steps on the Sabbath day).

The fig tree is oft-used in the bible to refer to Israel. Here in Matthew 24:32-33 Jesus refers to it again: “Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.”

There are many other prophecies throughout the Bible that show the need for the nation Israel to exist again as the time of the end approaches, and end time that is all about Israel and is named after their Troubles. When Israel was reborn in 1948 it kick-started the Daniel’s prophetic clock toward when the last 7 years would be concluded. The generation that was alive at the time of Israel’s rebirth will see these things come to pass. “Luke 21:32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.”

Don’t mix up a life span versus a generation. A generation is the time between when a man is born and when he has his first child. Jesus said in Matt. 24:34 that the generation being born when the first signs appeared would not pass away before all was fulfilled. That means that some people who were born around 1948 would still be alive when He returns. The Bible gives 70 years as the average with an extra 10 years for the people with extra strength.

However, some claim that the kick-start to the end times signs is 1967, the year that Israel got Jerusalem back after the six-day war. Which is also a reasonable claim. And Matthew 24:34 is widely interpreted, between the different statements in the bible about the length of a generation and the length of a life span, so there isn’t really a hard and fast rule that anything untoward will for sure occur by 2018.

My reading of all of the above, plus the signs we are now seeing so clearly, leads me to conclude that “it is right at the doors.”

I’ll answer your other question about ‘no one will know the day nor the hour” in a little while after supper. Thanks for reading and for asking.

  3. Hello again AH,

Of the issue about the no one knowing the day nor the hour, referring to the Second Coming and not the rapture, it's from two verses. One is Matthew 24:29-30 NKJV
"The Coming of the Son of Man"

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. "

then we get to Mt 24:36, In Matt. 24:36 Jesus said: “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” The day and hour He spoke of is His 2nd Coming, not the Rapture because the phrase “that day” refers back to verse 30 when all the nations will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with power and great glory. In the rapture no one sees Jesus except believers who are called up to Him in the air.

Secondly, the rapture is not a date-driven event, it is a number driven one. Romans 11:25-26 Paul said that after the full number of Gentiles has come in, God would turn to Israel again. In Acts 15:13-18 James agreed. Israel’s re-birth is a sign that the Church’s days on Earth are coming to an end. The "Full number" is a nautical term indicating that ships could not sail until the required number of sailors were aboard, so that the ship could be sailed safely with its full complement of hands. That number is still in force in UK Admiralty law, today. When that last Christian prays to Jesus for forgiveness, that full number will have been completed and we sail away!

    Hope this helps...
