Just some data on earthquakes. All numbers are from the United States Geological Survey to the date of April 23, 2011. The data is USGS but the chart is one I put together. There were six 'major' earthquakes this week, over 6.0 magnitude. Most were in Japan near the stricken Nuke plant. [6.0, 6.1, 6.0] but also in the Solomon Islands (6.9), Kermedec Islands [6.6], and Indonesia [6.2].
In the first few months of this year, to date there have been 121 quakes between 6.0 and 6.9. The annual average for this magnitude is 134. We are near that average and it isn't even half the year gone yet. I am sure that this average will be exceeded because to date there has been an average of three or more of these size quakes PER WEEK.
There have been eight quakes in magnitude between 7.0 to 7.9. The annual average for earthquakes of this magnitude is 15, so you see we are also more than halfway to the average for this magnitude with less than half the year gone.
There has been one quake over 8.0. The annual average is 1. We have met the average already and that occurred within the first quarter of the year on March 11 with the Japan quake. I am sure that 2011 will also see an exceeding of this average.
Jesus said that the interim between when He ascended on a cloud and when He returned on a cloud IN GREAT POWER AND GLORY that there would be earthquakes in diverse places, and likened them to birth pangs. (Luke 21:11; Mt 24:7) Birth pangs increase in intensity and frequency the closer to the time of the birth.

The recent outbreak of natural disasters and other odd weather phenomena is a little disconcerting. It also appears to be a catalyst for more people to become more interested in End Time prophecy and studies.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me wonder though, is this the End Time, or perhaps a world fallen from Grace, catching the brunt of God's wrath.
I wrote an article about possible EMP blasts from space (celestial, not heavenly) in the near future, and also wonder if our Earth could be reacting to that, or something similar in nature.
I admit, too, that it's a bit of a reach, but in an effort to find the truth, I have to uncover the untruth as well; I'm sure you understand.
What do you think? End-Time warnings or Wrath of God?

Thanks for sharing. I have been wondering about this as I have heard people say there is no evidence for increased number of earthquakes. It sure does look like to me there is an increase over the last few years.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Ken
You're welcome, Ken. The USGS has a search page and a person can search by magnitude and year, and the yield gives the total at top and then lists them all below. The averages I compared the yearly totals with are also from USGS. There are more earthquakes, period. The USGS counters by saying that there are more pieces of equipment worldwide, but that doesn't ash with me for two reasons. One is that I didn't look back to 1950, but back to 2004, 2009 etc. Are there THAT many more pieces of equipment in the world installed over the last two or five years? I don't think so. Second, the USGS, if their excuse will hold water, needs to UP the yearly averages. But they do not because the statistical data is more solid the longer it is gathered and these are based on observations since 1900. It's good data.
ReplyDeleteAaron,
ReplyDeleteIt is not the wrath. That is my answer and I do not swerve from it, and I'll give you a biblical reason why.
Case #1: Jesus said the church is not appointed to suffer wrath. 1 Thess 5:9. Paul was comforting the Thessalonians who thought they had missed the rapture. So the comment was made in the context of the Day of the Lord. (Synonym for judgment). The wrath is stated to begin in Revelation with the unsealing of the seals. (Rev 6:17). Paul ended his explanation by saying 'therefore comfort one another with these words". It would be no comfort if Paul had said no you didn't miss the rapture but you'll be enduring judgment!
Case #2: Jesus remembers our sins no more after we repent and are forgiven. (Hebrews 10:17; Heb 8:12; Is 43:25). Daniel 9:27 explicitly outlines the reasons for the Tribulation judgments and they are to punish sin. Why will God be punishing our sins if He has forgotten them?
those are the biblical reasons. If we are to endure judgment then someone has to explain how God can contradict Himself. Now here is the logical answer:
Revelation begins the judgments. Though we are in tough times now, we are NOWHERE CLOSE to the punishment the people will feel when seal 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are unsealed. A quarter of the world dies. Right away! A quarter of the world!!! A 10.0 plus quake happens that dislodges every mountain! THAT'S wrath! What we are experiencing now is simply a Depression, something that hasn't even yet equalled the great Depression our grandparents endured. It's warnings, not judgment. I am sure of this.
Hi Elizabeth!!
ReplyDeleteI was reading your answer to Aaron and I remembered something that was just recently pointed out to me.
It seems that a most of us (myself included) always believed that the pale horse in the book of Revelation is given authority over a quarter of the earth's POPULATION, but that's not what it says at all. It says it will have authority over a quarter of the EARTH, not the entire earth. So I'm guessing that there will only be a region of the world that is effected by this spirit. What do you think?
Sarah
There are actually a lot more earthquakes happening than those the USGS records, at least on their main pages. They only record those within certain parameters. Many that happen over here in Europe are never listed on any of the lists I've found at the USGS site, unless you want to go country by country, and then only 2.5 and above (if you know of a complete list, would you post the link please? :) ). Check out http://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/index.php?view=1 for a more complete list of what is happening in Europe, North Africa and part of the Near East. To see a map, click the top banner and it will take you there. Europe is actually moving a lot, which is normal for Europe and the collision of the plate boundaries here, but I never saw that on the USGS pages. What I'd like to see is maps like this of Africa, South America, the Far East, Australia/South Pacific. I'm sure they exist, I just haven't looked yet. Another thing to remember is that the increase this year really can be attributed to the New Zealand and Japan quakes as both countries have many monitoring stations, both for earthquakes and volcanoes, so we have much better and more information. If all of their aftershocks were taken out of the picture, I wonder what the list would look like? I'd also suggest you find a map showing all of the stations in the US. There are MANY in the center of the country and they continue to add more each year. They were not there just a few years ago. I'm not sure if there are really MORE quakes right now, or if we just KNOW about them now. Either way, the earth is groaning under the weight of our sin.
ReplyDeleteHi Colorado Columbine,
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen where USGS tracks global quakes lower than 2.5. If you go to this link a person can view quakes 1.0+ for USA
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/
this is the Hungarian alert system, it has a map of all events, including earthquakes. You can look by global view, or by continent. If you click on any icon representing quake, you get more info. You can also enlarge the map to zoom in.
Here is another link to a European Seismology monitor

Sarah,
ReplyDeleteHere is the Revelation verse you mentioned: Rev 6:8
And I looked and behold a pale horse and his name that sat on him was Death and Hell followed with him And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth to kill with sword and with hunger and with death and with the beasts of the earth
The pale horse in Greek is Chloros, like the sickly green color inside a jug of Clorox bleach.
The word 'a fourth part' in Greek is tetaros, or, a fourth. (totality, all four quarters) signifying "a sizable amount" (but not the majority). ) Prophecy interpreters take that to mean that of the 7 billion people on earth, 1.7 of them will die in this judgment from all over the world.
I do not think it means that a section of the world will be spared, because Daniel wrote in 9:27 at God will judge sin as a reason for the Tribulation. Sinners are everywhere and its effects are everywhere. Also in Rev 6:3 the horseman was given "power to take peace from the earth" and that means the whole earth. In Rev 6:12 there is a great earthquake )Greek mega seismos) and in Rev 6:14b "and every mountain and island was removed from its place" so that means *every* part of the earth is affected in judgment.
I agree that these are the birth pangs. I would be interested to know your opinion on HAARP. I have been studying it for a year and a half now. I truly believe that the earthquake in Japan was man-caused.
ReplyDeleteNow some of the websites about HAARP are conspiracy fringe, but Nick Beggich is credible and he has even testified about HAARP technology before the United Nations. We live in a world full of deception and we need to be careful.
But it seems reasonable to me that since much of the pestilence, genocide, and famine in our world is caused by sinful man, maybe some once "natural" disasters can also be increased by sinful man.
Just seeing if you have any thoughts. God bless you.
Hello Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteAs for HAARP, I have no opinion. It is one of those things that is a technology employed for the good, and for the advancement of understanding of our world and universe, but like with EVERY technology, there are unintended consequences.
HAARP is supposed to tickle the ionosphere, disrupt it in discrete areas so that radio propagation can be lengthened. That is the story, anyway. But with so many government technological undertakings, its true status may not be what the officials are saying. More than likely it is not.
If HAARP is being used in ways not revealed, and one of those unintended consequences had occurred, (like the Japan earthquake) it is more than likely the government would not admit it.
It's hard to believe the government has designs on using HAARP for more sinister purposes, like de-populating the earth, as conspiracy theorists maintain. Or for inciting earthquakes or atmospheric events that harm or otherwise disrupt the enemy. But stranger things are documented to have happened, so again, who knows.
Therefore, since there are so many unknowns surrounding HAARP, I don't speculate, and I don't put time or energy into wondering. I will never know this side of heaven, so what's the point on dwelling on something that will always remain clear as mud?
As for the Japan earthquake, I believe the bible, where it says in Matthew 24 that there will be earthquakes in diverse places, as birth pangs, increasing in intensity and frequency. The bible is truer than anything man comes up with, so I rely on the information there to observe the signs of the times regarding weather disruptions and earthquakes. Even if chemtrails, genetically modified foods, and HAARP are having an effect on the world, it is indicative of the Lord's allowing us to run toward the natural conclusion of our own pride in thinking we have any power to manipulate it, when we do not. Pride is the sin that caught satan, the highest cherub, and it is a sure thing that it has caught man.
HAARP to me is just another of the things man does that is an example of a Tower of Babel.
So whether HAARP is something man has instituted in his sin, and sin always has negative consequences, or whether God is using HAARP to unfold His plan, it all comes back to God. He is in control, and He made some promises. One of which is that we will not be appointed to wrath, and therefore we will be gone when the wrath starts.
If you want to wonder about something that has clearer prophetic indications, how about this:
