Yom Kippur begins today

At around noon EST, the highest holy holiday in Israel begins, Yom Kippur.

"Also known as Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora'im ("Days of Awe").

"Yom Kippur is the tenth day of the month of Tishrei. According to Jewish tradition, God inscribes each person's fate for the coming year into a book, the Book of Life, on Rosh Hashanah, and waits until Yom Kippur to "seal" the verdict. During the Days of Awe, a Jew tries to amend his or her behavior and seek forgiveness for wrongs done against God (bein adam leMakom) and against other human beings (bein adam lechavero). The evening and day of Yom Kippur are set aside for public and private petitions and confessions of guilt (Vidui). At the end of Yom Kippur, one hopes that they have been forgiven by God."

Gnosticism infiltrating the highest holy day for Jews, too:

Manayunk congregation's Yom Kippur service will take a nontraditional, meditational turn

I feel the Yom Kippur holy day is a time for high alert. Remember, 39 years ago, Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israel on this holiday. Be in prayer for the Jewish people, and the lost Muslims too...

  1. Can a religion that rejects Christ as Savior of the world be Gnostic? The Jews do not worship the one true God at this time. They rejected Him and His way of salvation at the time of Christ. They worship a false god, just as all other non-Christian religions do.

    1. Yes, any religion that rejects Christ can be Gnostic or have various levels of Gnosticism folded into it. The mystical Jews of the Kabbalah have folded in many aspects of Gnosticism into their belief system and can be said to have many of the main elements of Gnosticism within it.

I disagree that the Jews at this time worship a false God. They did however reject Jesus as the prophesied Messiah, as you said. Individually, a Jewish person who believes God only and not Jesus will not go to heaven. But it is my opinion they worship the true God.

Individually, Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. Nationally, God is no done with them as a nation yet. He has placed a partial hardening on their heart until the full number of the Gentiles has come in (thus closing the church age- Romans 11:25) and He will return to dealing with the nation of His chosen people during the Tribulation.

  2. This is an interesting question for me. If the Jews worship the one true God, then do the Mormons as well? They also use the Bible, as well as other books (ie the Book of Mormon). Jews add rabinical writings from over the centuries. Do Seventh Day Adventists worship the one true God? Do cultish groups who use the Bible also worship the one true God? And Islam claims to follow the Bible as well as the Koran - therefore, is Allah the one true God? Where do we draw the line and say "this is NOT the one true God"? It also brings to mind our own personal veiws: if a person has a twisted view of God, possibly shaped by childhood teaching, trauma, etc., are they woshipping the one true God - or an idol they have created in their own mind?
Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."

And how can the Jews or Muslims, either one, be worshipping the one true God when Jesus and God and the Holy Spirit are One, the same God? Unless we make them 3 seperate Gods. How can we worship only 1/3 of God and Him still be God?
John 14:5 "Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves."
and actually the whole chapter plus chapters 15-17 - it seems to be saying that you cannot seperate the Persons of the trinity from each other and only worship one or two members.

Christians do this quite often, too, saying they worship Christ, but not that mean old angry God of the Old Testament, just the loving kind Jesus of the New Testament. And occasionally we throw in worshipping the Holy Spirit, especially charismatics, who often tend to order him around instead of worship him.

So, this is really a question and I'm not sure the answer is yes at all. Do Jews really woship the one true God, or a false god?

    1. It is an easy question to answer. God has a covenant relationship with His people the Jews. He does not have a covenant with Mormons. He does not have a covenant with Muslims.

That relationship is outlined in the holy word we know as the bible, and is the only true word.

Mormons and Muslims and any other religion worship a false God because the basis from which they worship came from a different Gospel.(Book of Mormon, Koran) That is how you know it is false.

Jews are called the "people of God" (Genesis 12, Isaiah 51:16).

If you think the Jews worship a 'false' God and the answer is no (you'd said, "I'm not sure the answer is yes at all.") then by default you believe the covenant God of the Old Testament and the New Testament is false, because His covenant with the Jews runs from Genesis to Revelation.
