By Elizabeth Prata
Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. (Proverbs 30:5)
I look around my apartment, nothing is flawless. The house has settled and the kitchen cabinets are a little crooked. The dining table has a crack. Even my new book has a typo. The kitty bed has uneven seams. Nothing in this life is flawless. Flawless means perfect. Is there anything here perfect? No.
But Christ is perfect.
In Hebrew the word for flawless in this verse is actually 'tested'. It refers to a smelter and his purification process of smelting out the dross and what remains is perfectly pure silver or gold.
Do you think of God's word as uncontaminated? Pure, tested, refined, and perfected glowing gold or sparkling silver?
Here is how Gill's Exposition describes the Proverbs verse:
Every promise is purified, tested gold. He is for you. He is our shield! Every word of His is golden.

The whole of Scripture is pure, free from all falsehood and error; coming from the God of truth, who cannot lie, and therefore called "the Scriptures of truth": every promise is pure as well as precious, made without dissimulation,Do you lean on the Word of God and trust His flawless promises? Do you believe He will keep you and never forsake you? Never let anyone snatch you out of His hand? Provide for you in even greater measure than He clothes the lilies of the field and the birds of the sky? That even though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, that He is with you? That everything is for the good of those who are called to His name?
faithfully performed,
and all yea and amen in Christ;
every doctrine is pure,
free from the mixtures and inventions of men;
the sincere milk of the word;
consistent and all of a piece,
not yea and nay;
and tending to promote purity of heart and life;
wholesome words
Every promise is purified, tested gold. He is for you. He is our shield! Every word of His is golden.

This is so beautifully written, Elizabeth. I needed to hear this truth, tonight. Things are currently so upside down in the world and farther from flawless than ever before. Thank you for expressing in such a smart and succinct way. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Irene, thank you for your kind comment. I agree, things sure are upside down. So sad, the world only ever gets worse. We have joy in the fact of our bright future though, praise God.
