Current events podcasts discussing George Floyd, racism, social justice, and of course, books

By Elizabeth Prata

Yesterday was the watershed day for me. I try not to watch news, read news, or discuss news. A headline or two here and there just to see of the world is still spinning, and I'm good to go. Yesterday even the limited amounts of time I spent scrolling was too much. I came away with a darkened mood and a sad soul. So I decided I'm going away from the current events for a while.

With that though, I know there are people, especially younger brothers and sisters, who have questions. They want to sort out what is happening. Their consciences are tender and their heart moves easily. Yet there is a quantity of material out there which is not edifying, and just adds to the clamor. There is also an encroaching wave of false liberal theologies infiltrating the church. So I put together a list of podcasts that in my opinion edifies and helps cut the Gordian knots of confusion and adds to one's biblical understanding. The list below is intended to be helpful, and I hope it is.

I've listened to these myself and recommend them. The last podcast at the bottom is books only. It's a new podcast from Westminster Books, a publishing outfit that sells solidly Christian books. I added it to bring this new podcast to your attention.

Lord willing, tomorrow I'll return to some subjects I enjoy; theology, prophecy, encouragement. Shining the Light of truth. I hope you don't mind. There are a bunch of people out there who do a better job than I do anyway of making coherent and relevant contributions to the current news scene, anyway.

6. Voddie Baucham: Founders Ministries
Ethnic Gnosticism is a term crafted by Voddie Baucham to explain the phenomenon of people believing that somehow because of one's ethnicity that one is able to know when something or someone is racist. In this sermon, Dr. Baucham sheds light on the way this ideology is undermining the gospel and compromising genuine christian relationships in the church today. Also addresses "social justice." Video from March 2019 but strongly recommended as a companion to The Sword & The Trowel podcast on the same subject.

If you only read one book from 2020, make it this one–it's that good.
