An article in Business Insider this morning caught my eye. It is titled, "12 Places To Go If The World Goes To Hell."
"War, oil shortages, global warming, nuclear bombs, and economic collapse... All of it seems unlikely, but don't you want to be prepared? If you have to jump on a plane (or a boat or a train or a hot air balloon) and head for safety, you want to know where in the world you should go. We've selected places that we expect will remain fortresses of stability, safety, and prosperity no matter what the world throws at it."
LOL, conspiracy theorists call this concept "bug-out places." Yet, therein lies the original problem: man's dismissal of the repeated warnings in the bible that all of this is not only likely, but sure. And the additional problem compounds, that man can overcome end time tribulations without God. The bible clearly teaches that at the time of the end, there will be no place of peace. There will be no place of stability. There will be no place to hide. The world will be hellish almost beyond endurance. Let's take a closer look at what's coming, and how the places mentioned in Business Insider's list will offer no respite from God's judgment. You can run, but you can't hide.
Peace: you can get to Tierra Del Fuego or the Yukon but God still knows where you are. He knows where every atom of each person's dead body whoever lived is, He certainly knows about your anchored boat in the Virgin Islands. There are four horsemen of the Apocalypse described in Revelation 6:1-8 (five, if you count Jesus arriving on a white horse to slay the assembled armies at Armageddon). The second horse is described in verse 4, “Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.” Peace will be taken from the earth. That means, the entire earth, even your bug-out place.
Stability: The later chapters of Revelation teach that nothing that anyone counted on in previous times will be stable. All that we have known from the beginning of time will be upended, from currency to gold/silver to even the mountains. Nothing will be stable because everything man has built will come tumbling down.
Hiding: Several of the places mentioned that would be 'great to flee to in case the world goes to hell' are islands such as Guam, or the Virgin Islands, or a remote island chain in the South Pacific, Tristan de Cunha. Also Switzerland's Alps is mentioned as a great place to dwell when the world falls apart. So is Denver because of the mountainous geography. You can go to the islands and the mountains but you will not find safety. "And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found." (Rev 16:2).
Everyone from kings of the earth down to the lowest man will flee to the caves, but caves will afford no protection. "And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;" (Revelation 6:15). This theme is repeated in Isaiah 2:19- "And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth." And again in Ezekiel 33:27- "Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence."
It is particularly saddening to see the jauntiness with which the article glosses over the realities of what Christians know is coming. This is one example: Tristan de Cunha "is known for excellent fishing -- the perfect kind of self-sustaining career if times were to get really bad." A third of the waters of the earth turn poison and bitter and many people die. Hosea 4:3 describes further judgment, "Because of this the land mourns, and all who live in it waste away; the beasts of the field and the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea are dying." So times WILL get really bad, even for the fish. What then? Do not take lightly the realities of the coming Tribulation. You cannot be safe if you are carnally secure. But your spiritual safety is assured if you let go of carnality and begin a relationship with God. How?
Though these will be tough times as man has never seen before, no nor shall ever be again, there is remedy from them: Jesus. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end of it all. If you accept that you are a sinner and are thus never holy enough on your own strength to dwell with God in heaven, and you ask Jesus to forgive your sins, He will. He died on the cross as the living sacrifice so that He could and would forgive you. All you have to do is but ask. But you do have to ask. And you have to believe in the One whom God has sent. (John 6:29)
All you need to do is recognize your sins, foremost of which is a Godlessness attitude that you can jauntily sail away to the Virgin Islands to escape the judgments that you yourself were a part of bringing upon the world. You CAN escape, though! FMI go here. Don't wait. After all, wouldn't you rather learn to be forgiven than hop a train to the Yukon? You can be raptured with believing, born-again Christians, eat at the marriage supper of the Lamb, and KNOW that you will be safe forever; or you can bug-out to Bern and live in a cave, hoping that you made the right choice.
