Three bad things: a Godless universe, a switched off morality center, and an invisibility cloak

I bring to your attention three science stories that add up to very big trouble for humankind. They do not initially seem as though they are connected, but they are. Read on.

First is the news I wrote of yesterday, that the Large Hadron Collider was about to be fired up, and it was. It fired up successfully this morning in Switzerland (after three tries). The scientists have ramped up the machine to its intended speed and smashed particles in an attempt to confirm the theory of dark matter, and learn how mass holds the universe together. They believe there is a particle called the "Higgs-Boson" that is the universe's glue but they have nicknamed it the "God Particle." The scientists who search for the fabric of the universe so they can make a name for themselves, dare to nickname it after the Almighty, while denying His existence are "always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth." It is as exactly Paul warned Timothy of godlessness in the last days (2 Tim 3:7). It is and always has been a dangerous thing to ignore God. To actively try to remove God from the Universe is even worse.

Second, Scientists discover how to ‘turn off’ brain’s morality center. Man, being sinful, needs whatever restraint he can cling to, to keep from falling into a state of total evil. As the report describes, "People's moral judgment can be altered by disrupting part of the brain, a study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences shows." The experiments to learn of what happens when the moral center is switched off are even more heinous. We read,

"In one scenario, a person called Grace and her friend are taking a tour of a chemical plant when Grace stops at the coffee machine. Grace's friend asks her to get her a coffee with sugar. A container by the coffee machine is marked 'toxic' but contains plain old sugar -- but Grace doesn't know that. She believes the white powder in the container is toxic but puts it in her friend's coffee anyway. Her friend is unharmed because the substance was sugar. Participants in the study were asked to judge on a scale of one to seven, with one being "absolutely forbidden" and seven "absolutely permissible," if they thought what Grace and other protagonists in other scenarios did was morally acceptable." Of course, we would not be reading this as news unless the experiment proved that the participants' judged the toxic sugar as "morally acceptable."

Calvin wrote, "There is within the human mind, and indeed by natural instinct, an awareness of divinity." I believe that is what Romans 2:14-15 is telling us. "For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,". (Commentary on that verse here). I also believe that Romans 1:18-20 tells us that there exists a variety of environmental circumstances which can trigger this human tendency to believe in God, including the beauty of the natural world. Further, that our sin nature suppresses the tendency, naturally at first, later, purposely and actively. "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them." You can't suppress what you do not have within you. [Note: Others do not believe that there is within us a Divine Spark within us. It is a heated theological argument.]

However, if believing that a divine spark resides within us, purposely turning it off as indicated by the experiment, is a deep rebellion against God. It is evil to think that we can knowingly offer a deadly substance to a fellow human and judge it as morally appropriate.

Third, we read that "Scientists in Germany invent 'invisibility cloak.'" "The creation of Harry Potter-style invisibility cloaks may be closer than you think. German scientists have found a way to make an object vanish from view in three dimensions for the first time, according to a study published in the journal "Science."

Do you see the downward trajectory of the human condition soon to be upon us (if left unchecked)? Of how these three events are connected? The aforementioned items are a reality in the lab, but how long will it be before the technology is widely disseminated to the mainstream for man's fun and sinful games? If history is any indicator, not long. Can you not see how soon man will run rampant over his fellow humans if he is released from knowledge of the Divine Judge, suppresses the Divine Spark, puts on a cloak that renders him invisible, and is free to sin without being seen?? Burglars, pedophiles, adulterers, thieves ... running rampant, secure in their invisibility. Total evil would reign. And it will reign, it will be a horrible event for non-believers when the Restrainer is taken away! (2 Thess 2:7)

These three recent scientific breakthroughs, taken together, spell upcoming evil. Will man forgo turning off his morality center if he has an option? No. Can man be counted on not to use an invisibility cloak for evil purposes? No. Does proving Higgs-Boson exists mean people on the fence people will still accept that God holds the universe together? No.

"Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." Gen 6:5. God sent the flood soon after, and Jesus tells us that the time of the end will be like the "Days of Noe" (Mt 24:37). It doesn't take a lot of imagination to see that the Days of Noah are upon us but also that the days can get a lot worse.

Thankfully, our Jesus the Savior is merciful. Thankfully, our God the Sovereign King is perfect in His timing.  He knows just how far to let things go. And then Jesus will sound the trump of God and He will call us up to Him! It will be a blessed event for Christians, a tremendous fulfillment of Jesus' promise! He reigns! And we with Him!

LHC scheduled to smash particles tomorrow

My interest in the Large Hadron Collider has not waned, but only has grown. I feel that this machine and its imminent search to find the God Particle, is indicative of the kind of mindset that God pronounced would permeate the end of days, a replica of an attitude that permeated the beginning of days when He decided to send the Flood. "Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. The Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord." (Gen 6:5-8). We are told that the end of days would be like the time of Noah, "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." (Matthew 24:37).

To me, the LHC is a situation as in the time of Nimrod when he disobeyed God, made a city, and endeavored to build a tower so he could make a name for himself. The big bang machine under the Alps is not a flashy sign of the times like a volcano eruption or earthquake, nor is it a stressful one like a slow economic crash, but it is like the oil light on your car. It is a small light, easy to overlook, but failure to heed its warning results in total destruction of the car. The scientists who search for the fabric of the universe so they can make a name for themselves, dare to nickname it after the Almighty, while denying His existence are "always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth." It is as exactly Paul warned Timothy of godlessness in the last days (2 Tim 3:7).

I4U News humorously reports:

"The CERN just tweeted that the LHC is ready to finally do what it is built for after a long series of delays. Tomorrow, March 30th, 8:30am, the LHC will start to colliding particles. The LHC (Large Hadron Collider) is set to generate collisions at 7 TeV (3.5 TeV per beam). TeV stands for Tera electron volt and is a measure of energy. An eV unit of energy equal to approximately 1.602×10−19 J. More details on Wikipedia. CERN does not know when exactly they will actually detect a collision. As soon as it happens they will hold a media event and offer a live webcast. I am not sure if still some Earthlings believe that this will be the end of the world, but in any case we had a fun ride."

LOL. Of course, the world will not end, but it will be re-created by God, and that will happen in His timing. The Large Hadron Collider particle smashing machine will close down for a lengthy period at the end of next year, but it looks like despite the many delays (signs) they are bulling ahead with their notion that they can (safely) recreate the Big Bang and find the "God particle." I think at some point they will be surprised to actually find God, and He will not be pleased.

Under the Alps, CERN is all a-twitter at their upcoming moment. They have built it, tested, it, overcome delays, and now they are on the verge of the big bang. The scientists are excited at this near-culmination of a long-held dream. I am excited because I can't wait to see what God will do. Either way, it is interesting times!

Some eschatological art

Something to think about:

This is what will become of the earth and happen to those under God's judgment.
"And owl and raven will dwell in it; And He will stretch over it the line of desolation And the plumb line of emptiness." Isaiah 34:11

Something to look forward to!

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words." 1 Thess 4:16-18

Peace among rumors of wars

The disciples asked Jesus about the end of times in Matthew 24:3, "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" Jesus gave a lengthy and specific answer. One of the signs He told the disciples to look for were "wars and rumors of wars." The rumors of wars is often overlooked in light of the upcoming fact of the wars of Isaiah 17:1, Psalm 83, Ezekiel 38-39, and the war at Armageddon in Rev. 16:14, plus other wars that have not been described specifically but will occur as per Rev. 6:4.

The news today is sobering. On one side of the Atlantic, we read that The "Special Relationship" between US and UK is over, MP's say. Also on that side of the Atlantic, we read that even as tanks roll into Gaza, "Israel will have to end Hamas regime." On the other side of the world, a South Korean ship was sunk in the Yellow Sea with all hands on board. North Korea is suspected. At home, massive FBI - DHS raids were carried out in three states, militias are the suspected targets, as reported here, and here, and other places. In this report, the raids were against militia groups with Christian ties, specifically with end time orientation and philosophy.

Note that none of the prophesied wars have occurred yet. However, Jesus said in the same breath, 'wars and rumors of wars.' Wars are something we can wrap our minds around. There are concrete terms that we associate with wars. 'Win,' 'lose,' 'enemy,' 'advance', 'retreat,' 'victory', 'defeat.' We can understand what is required and take action. However, with rumors, there is nothing concrete. Truth could be anything and anything could be a lie. Nothing is certain. Rumors are quicksand. And rumors of wars are the worst kind of rumors because they keep a population on such edge and anxiety. Looking at the news today from east to west, north to south, we never quite can predict where or when the next blow will come. That is the nature of rumors.

Gary Alan Fine is a premier academic who has made a career of studying the social impact of rumor and legend. In his book "Rumor Mills," Fine says that a rumor's "major ideological function is to bridge over the cognitive gaps tearing the tissue of normative beliefs and standards." In other words, as belief systems are shaken, people knit the few facts available into tales that satisfy the gaps in their understanding, an understanding that is being shaken ever more vigorously, and as it is shaken more vigorously, the tales increase to cover the gaps. The end time is certainly a time when belief systems are being shaken. People who believed whole-heartedly in the concepts of money, tenure, career, home, capitalism,  retirement, and security are concepts that no longer have the same meaning as they did even two years ago.

Rumors put you on edge. The search for truth often proves fruitless. Anxiety grows. Rumors draw energy away from our culture, life, society. The promote a general unbalancing. This is what rumors do and rumors of war are the worst. However, Jesus, being perfect, and intentional with every word He speaks, said in the same sentence as the promise of wars and rumors of wars, "but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come." (Mt 24:6 NIV)

Jesus knows the effect that a time of prolonged rumor has upon a psyche, and He admonishes us not to be afraid! Do not be a slave to fears. There is nothing more tarnishing to a Christian testimony than a life of hand-wringing. Nothing is more detrimental to the Light of the Holy Spirit inside us than giving in to the fear that rumors of war brings.

UK and US may go their separate ways. North Korea may have sunk a South Korean ship. Israel may occupy Gaza. FBI may have busted up American militia groups. These are all potentialities. Look past the rumors of what MAY happen, to the certainty of what will happen. The Lord will come rapture us away. The Holy Spirit will draw multitudes to salvation during the Tribulation. God will re-create the earth. Of all people, Christians should exhibit the peace that passes all understanding. Others may fear and cry. Others may let rumors permeate their soul and dim their light. This time, above all times, should be the time when we heed the Lord's admonishment and fear not! We can look past the time of uncertainty toward the time of certainty - when Jesus rules. We have the blessed Hope. Be bright with hope for others who are in the dark. Rumors come and go. They float up into a nation's consciousness, and they they dissolve just as ephemerally. Jesus is solid. He never fades. And that's a fact!

The cycle of war will soon be broken

The LORD makes us some promises that are fear-inducing. Other promises He makes are awe-inspiring. Some are both at once. They are bookends of man's folly and His glory.

In Joel's prophetic book, at chapter 3 verse 10, it is written: "Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, "I am a mighty man." (Left, the Arming of the Nations)

Most of us have heard the line that we will beat our plowshares into swords. That verse is located at Isaiah 2:4 - "And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war." Did you know that there were opposite prophecies concerning the plowshares? God is great and His Word is great.

A plowshare is the pointed part of the homemade plow that digs into the ground. (Image source, University at Buffalo). The cutting point was often laced with bronze or (later) iron. This advance was introduced by the Greeks. In those days as it often as now, metal was expensive. In times of war it was reused by melting it down or forging to make weapons. In WWII America scrap metal drives were held to accumulate metal to be used in munitions. One scrap metal drive accumulated over 5 million tons of metal in just three weeks. It was common or people to strip the metal from their plowshare and beat them into swords when war loomed on the horizon. When the war was over, the reversed the process and beat them into plowshares again. (Left, Nebraska Boy Scouts in WWII scrap metal drive). Life on earth has been a never-ending cycle of war-peace, war-peace; plowshares into swords-swords into plowshares...

The Joel verse about the plowshares in context describes war that occurred, war that is ongoing, and also speaks of a (near) future war. It will be a time when God will gather all the people to the Valley of Jehoshaphat (Valley of Decision) and render unto them His wrath, because "you have divided my land." Currently Obama is directly pressuring Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to divide Jerusalem. According to the Ma'An News Agency, Obama asked the PM two direct questions in the recent meeting at the Oval Office. The meeting was shrouded in unprecedented secrecy and the Prime Minister was met with Obama nearly holding his nose. For the ensuing meeting Netanyahu was treated like a Third World Dictator. The two questions Obama reportedly asked were: "The first question, it seems, was “to what extent are you ready to divide Jerusalem?” and the second, “in what timeframe do you want to accomplish the process of reconciliation with the Palestinians?” Joel Rosenberg, a more credible source than Ma'An in my opinion, reported on Netanyahu's appearance at the AIPAC meeting, saying that the main point Netanyahu brought out was "Stop Iran or Israel Will". It is a great essay, I recommend it.

War is coming. Not only does Joel describe the last war when all nations are gathered, the horrendous WWIII, but war will occur prior to that ultimate war as prophesied in Psalm 83, Isaiah 17, and Ezekiel 38-39. Scrap drives like no other scrap drives will be taking place at all corners of the world. Plows and other items will be stripped of any and all metal, so that soldiers can come up, so that war against God can be ignited.

However, the good news is that there is a glorious ending to the story. The never-ending cycle will be broken! Isaiah prophesies that "they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war." Oh, merciful Lord! No more war. Plowshares forever. Can you imagine a time or a place where war is never rumored, never occurs, where the earth never requires reconstruction nor cleanup? A place where a peaceful, loving, agrarian society quietly lives and loves other nations? It will happen. You can be part of it. All you need to do is recognize you are a sinner, and feeling sorry that you sinned, ask Jesus to forgive you. If you accept Him as savior and Lord, (meaning He is the only one Who can and will forgive all your sins) you will be forgiven and live forever in a place where there is no war. Hallelujah! The Lord is victorious!

Has America's point of no return been reached?

God has a limit, you know. God is love but He is no doormat. He doesn't overlook sin, patting you on the head, saying, Aww, that's all right. He does not accept rebellion lightly. He will not accept war against Him under any circumstance.

Did you know that when an individual is so hardened to the truth, He gives them over to it? There IS a point of no return. "For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural," (Rom 1:25-26). "But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said."(Exodus 8:15) so the LORD finished the hardening Pharaoh had started, and hardened Pharaoh's heart completely. (Exodus 10:20). God gives people over to their rebellion after a certain point.

After a certain point God gives nations over, too.

First, remember that He always judges sin. Even if the nation is not at the point where He will judge it, but only discipline it, sin is dealt with. "Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent." (Rev 3:19). Haiti repented after the earthquake and that is a praise to our Lord!

But in addition to reproving and disciplining, He judges. Nineveh is the example here. Jonah preached and they repented, from the top to the bottom. The King got up after hearing Jonah and he set aside his robe and he put on sackcloth and the nation fasted and prayed. God was satisfied and stayed their judgment for over 100 years. God had promised that judgment would come, but because of their repentance, an entire generation had been spared it. (Jonah 3:5-9) When the nation had fallen back to their wicked ways - brutality, plunder, idolatry, and after 150 years, they were judged. (Nahum)

He waits a long time before judging. He waited 120 years before sending the Flood. In Genesis 15:13-16 God told Abraham He would judge the Amorites after 400 years, "until their iniquity was complete." Sincere repentance can delay judgment, as we have seen with the example of Nineveh, but if God deems the nation incurable, judgment WILL come.

God judges a nation for a variety of reasons. He judged Sodom and Gomorrah for their sin of homosexuality. "Genesis 18:20 - "And the Lord said, 'The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave.'" He destroyed the city. There are many, many other examples of God judging the nations for their actions. He judged Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, Edom, Ammon, Judah, Moab, and Israel (Amos 1, Judgment of Nations) for idolatry, brutality, oppression, plunder, for not keeping the Commandments of God, for despising God.

When does He judge? First He warns, then He disciplines. If repentance is absent or if the nation worsens their actions in spite of His obvious discipline, then at a certain point after long-suffering compassion, He deems their sins "incurable" and He judges. "There is no relief for your breakdown, Your wound is incurable." (Nahum 3:19) Usually the judgment is devastating. Nineveh's was so complete, the city was obliterated and never found until 1845, after almost a thousand years. If you look up "incurable" in a good concordance, or here, you will see He spoke to Jeremiah, Micah, and Isaiah as well as Nahum about the point at which various nations were deemed to be given over to incurable sin.

In aviation, there is a term called the "point of no return." Wikipedia defines it as "the point on a flight at which, due to fuel consumption, a plane is no longer capable of returning to its airfield of original takeoff. After passing the point of no return, the plane has no option but to continue to some other destination. In this sense, the phrase implies an irrevocable commitment." The irrevocable commitment...

Is America irrevocably committed to sin? It would seem so. If we are, then we are in danger of God deeming America "incurable" and passing the point of no return. We are the number one national exporter of child porn, abortion ( child murder), gambling, and violence. We are legalizing homosexual marriages, drugs, and making divorce very easy. And not only are we rebellious against God in persisting in these sins, we deliberately fight against Him through deliberate dismantling of His presence in our society. We have removed His commandments from the schools and from public life, government, and speech. We have banned prayer in schools and at public functions. One Supreme Court suit today upheld a ban on the song "Ave Maria" being played at a graduation - the instrumental version, no lyrics, even! It was still banned for being "too religious." We have ignored His Word in our churches, watering it down to match with the culture. All the nations above were judged for less.

Since our judgment is a surety, all we need to wonder about is "when?" My opinion is "now" or "soon." The current health care bill that pays for child murder at the taxpayer dime is a heinous crime in God's eyes. Leviticus 20:3 describes God's anger against those who sacrificed their children to the god Molech "And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name." Child-sacrifice profanes God. He is serious about His children, the littlest among the little. When we as a nation wantonly kill them it is bad enough. But when that murder is supported from the government levels as a taxpayer funded activity, it becomes a profane that defiles His very sanctuary. Worst, we are cursing the land that He blessed, pushing Israel to divide it, thus straining our relationship with His blessed nation. Will He stand that for all this sin much longer? I do not think so. People get ready!

Is the US putting an embargo on Israel?

From the World Tribune Thursday:

Obama blocks delivery of bunker-busters to Israel
WASHINGTON — The United States has diverted a shipment of bunker-busters designated for Israel. Officials said the U.S. military was ordered to divert a shipment of smart bunker-buster bombs from Israel to a military base in Diego Garcia. They said the shipment of 387 smart munitions had been slated to join pre-positioned U.S. military equipment in Israel Air Force bases. "This was a political decision," an official said. In 2008, the United States approved an Israeli request for bunker-busters capable of destroying underground facilities, including Iranian nuclear weapons sites. Officials said delivery of the weapons was held up by the administration of President Barack Obama."

"Since taking office, Obama has refused to approve any major Israeli requests for U.S. weapons platforms or advanced systems. Officials said this included proposed Israeli procurement of AH-64D Apache attack helicopters, refueling systems, advanced munitions and data on a stealth variant of the F-15E. "All signs indicate that this will continue in 2010," a congressional source familiar with the Israeli military requests said. "This is really an embargo, but nobody talks about it publicly." "

"Under the plan, the U.S. military was to have stored 195 BLU-110 and 192 BLU-117 munitions in unspecified air force bases in Israel. The U.S. military uses four Israeli bases for the storage of about $400 million worth of pre-positioned equipment meant for use by either Washington or Jerusalem in any regional war. In January 2010, the administration agreed to an Israeli request to double the amount of U.S. military stockpiles to $800 million. Officials said the bunker-busters as well as Patriot missile interceptors were included in the agreement."

"The decision to divert the BLU munitions was taken amid the crisis between Israel and the United States over planned construction of Jewish homes in Jerusalem. The administration, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has warned that Washington could reduce military aid to Israel because of its construction policy. In 2007, after its war in Lebanon, Israel requested 2,000 BLU-109 live bombs from the United States. The 2,000-pound bomb, produced by Boeing and coupled with a laser guidance kit, was designed to penetrate concrete bunkers and other underground hardened sites. Israeli ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, was quoted as saying that his country faced its biggest crisis with the United States since 1975. A pro-Israel lobbyist said Oren was referring to the current U.S. embargo, which echoed a decision taken 35 years ago by then-President Gerald Ford after Israel's refusal to withdraw from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. Oren has since denied the remark."

If true, sobering news indeed! Genesis 12:3 says "And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse, And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed." Since God is faithful in ALL His promises, this is dire news for the United States. Are you prepared to meet Jesus? If you are not, are you prepared to be left behind during the worst chaos and wars the world has ever seen? It's simple: all you need to do is understand that since you are a sinner (that you think-say-or do things repugnant to God) you need to ask Jesus to forgive those sins. Accept Him as Lord and Savior of your life and He will do it. But you have to ask. Be ready, Christian, for the promised curses to unfold, and be ready lost person, to make your ultimate decision on whether or not you believe your sins are preventing you from a blessed and loving relationship with Jesus..

Korban Pesach inching closer to reality?

Several days ago INN published a piece titled "Temple Mount Institute wants to offer biblical Passover sacrifice."
The Temple Mount Institute has filed suit in its fight for the right to sacrifice a sheep on the Temple Mount prior to Passover, as commanded in the Torah. "The command to perform a Paschal [Passover] sacrifice is a positive commandment; the punishment for failing to perform it is 'karet' [lit. -- 'cut off', meaning that a person is cut off from the Nation of Israel], and it can be performed only on the day before Passover and only on the Temple Mount,” the organization explained in a petition to the Supreme Court. Fighting the group's request are the Israel Police, who argue that the sacrifice would lead to Muslim riots and thus threaten public safety."

"Jews have the right to offer animal sacrifices on the Temple Mount under Israeli law, the organization claimed. Israelis are guaranteed the right to freedom of worship, and Israel prides itself in allowing members of all faiths to access their holy sites. In previous years, the court has ruled that the right to freedom of worship is outweighed by the consideration of public safety, and has forbidden the Paschal sacrifice. The Temple Mount Institute also took the opportunity to take police to task for barring Jews and Christians from the Temple Mount following Muslim riots. “The Israel Police is giving rioters a 'prize' and encouraging them to hold violent riots and disturb the peace, on the one hand, and is discriminating against Jews and members of other faiths and trampling their human rights – the right to freedom of movement and freedom of worship – on the other,” the organization accused. The Institute asked the court to order police to explain why Jews are barred from the mount when Muslims riot."

The sacrifice is called Korban Pesach and it is explained here: "What is Korban Pesach?"

Yesterday The Temple Mount organizations petitioning for the right to sacrifice on Passover at the Temple Mount received word that their request was passed on to the Government. This represents the furthest progress they have ever made in petitioning for the right to make a Temple Mount offering. See article below from Temple Mount Faithful website:

"Excitement growing for Passover Offering 2010"
"According to reports from activists in the field unprecedented number of people are signing up to take part in the Passover Offering. According to biblical law the Paschal Lamb must be eaten on Passover night in a group of no less than 10, known as a “Chabura”.  To great surprise many individuals even in the Haredi (ultra orthodox) sector are also signing up and getting their lambs ready to slaughter for this special and important Offering to Almighty One. The Supreme Court has required the Government of Israel to respond to a petition presented by the Temple Mount Movements by Sunday. According to a representative of the Temple Mount Movements this morning, the trial over the Passover Offering may take place as soon as Monday! We will keep you updated with any new developments regarding the Passover Offering 2010."

The folks at the Rosh Pina Project blog, a Messianic Jewish blog, state:
"There is lots of messianic fervour currently in Israel surrounding the year 5770, as it corresponds numerically with 770 Eastern Parkway – the New York address of the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, whom many Chabadniks believe is the Moshiach, and believe he will arrive before the year is out. But it is not just Chabad hasidim who believe that Moshiach and Geula will come before the end of 5770. The reality is these views are prevalent across the spectrum of haredi Judaism. Orthodox Jewish news site Matzav reports that many leading Litvak poskim are supporting a project which teaches that Moshiach and Geula are coming at Pesach this year."

The folks at matzov.com, a page devoted to "The Online Voice of Torah Jewry " say, "A new effort to prepare Yidden for the coming of Moshiach in time for Pesach 5770 has received the approval from gedolim. The project is aimed at having Yidden organized in chaburos, with animals inspected and ready to be used for the korban Pesach upon Moshiach’s arrival prior to the Chag Hamatzos this year."

Messianic fervour...an interesting phrase. We do know that immediately after the Gog-Magog war in which God shows Himself to His people and demonstrates His power in winning that war for them, He will then call ALL the Jews to the land, "not leaving any behind." When they all come back He "pours out His spirit on the House of Israel." (Ezekiel 39:28-29) We can now see the start of this yearning for their LORD. The Temple Mount and the sacrifices petition could be representative of a drumbeat in more and more Jews' hearts as they begin to give voice the call that the Spirit is rising in them.

Are you grumbling about your manna?

The Lord has plans to prosper His children. He makes continual promises that we should not fear, because He knows our needs, and He will supply them. Matthew 6:31-34 is one example. The verses say, "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

The People were wandering in the desert and had gotten mightily hungry. (Exodus 16) They began longing for the time of their captivity because at least then, they had bread and meat (Exodus 16:3). They began to grumble against Moses and against the LORD.

So, "Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether or not they will walk in My instruction." (Exodus 16:4)

The economic crash has been long, hard, and painful. Many people, Christians included, have lost jobs, have faced foreclosure, and have had to undergo extreme austerity measures (voluntarily or involuntarily). Pension plans are wiped out. Americans have been so used to prosperity that we have planned for it in the long-term with retirement accounts that we expected to remain full and fuller as time went on. We expected that after ten or twenty or thirty years that we would of course sell our houses and reap a comfortable profit. We were used to corporate loyalty and lengthy terms of employment, if not permanent ones, if we obtain tenure or have a strong union to back us. Long-term perspectives of our own personal wealth was the norm.

Long-term is no longer the norm. The weather, the economy, the animals, the government, the individual...all are behaving strangely now. God is lifting His Hand and we see the result of having less than full protection as we adjust to the new reality.

Yet, God said He would supply us. I can almost hear the prayers of Christians who beg for supply. Who pray for restoration of what they once had. I can almost hear many brothers and sisters crying out, "Where is it?? 'My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.' (Philippians 4:19) So where is it?"

It is in Matthew 6 and it is in Exodus 16. "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself." and "the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day." God IS supplying you, faithful one. He just may be doing it in a manna situation, a one-day supply instead of extra, like before. He sent the Israelites a one day portion delivered, on time, every time. He even made it so that their clothes did not wear out. (Deut 29:5) The LORD told Moses that He was doing it to test them. Not that God didn't know the outcome of the test, like He needed to learn something, but that He wanted to restrict their supply so that they would learn to more faithfully depend on Him. Is that your situation? Could you be undergoing a test so that you will learn to depend on Him to greater degree and be strengthened for trials?

Do not worry about what you will eat nor what you shall wear. Do not worry about tomorrow. He provides. Think of the Israelites. Think on His promises to keep us and provide for us. If you only have enough today, do not fret, for you are blessed with bread from heaven!

The Gordian Knot of American government

The Gordian Knot is a legend of Phrygian Gordium associated with Alexander the Great. It is often used as a metaphor for an intractable problem, solved by a bold stroke ("cutting the Gordian knot")  (source; Wikipedia). In gratitude for being made king of Phyrgia, Gordous dedicated his ox-cart to Zeus. The oracle had foretold that the next man coming to town in an ox-cart would be king, and that man was Gordius. He must have been surprised that rather than haggling for corn in town as he intended to do, he was given a throne and made king. In any case, he made a shrine as thanks and pulled the ox-cart, minus the ox, up to it and tied it to a pole that had an intricate Turkish knot on top. The interest in the knot grew and grew over the years, until another oracle said that the man who could loosen the knot would be king of Asia. Soon after, Alexander the Great rode into town, and seeing the knot and hearing of the legend, sliced it with his sword. He did become King of Asia, by the way.

Untying the Gordian Knot has become a euphemism for solving the unsolvable problem.

The government of the United States is in a Gordian Knot right now. It is a problem of unsolvable problems. It is a corrupt, evil, venal, pompous, brutal, and cheating tied-up mess. And that is the nicest thing I can say about it. It is also the kindest thing a Congressman himself can say about it: Rep. Tom Perriello (D-VA) said today,
Dem Congressman: "If You Don't Tie Our Hands, We Will Keep Stealing". If the Gordian Knot was on a pole inside Congress I bet they would steal that, too.

Hebrews 11:25  says that "Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;" Sin is pleasurable for a season. The congressmen who have enjoyed economic rape, Federal plunder, raucous pillaging, will soon reap the rewards that such sin eventually wanes away and gives sway to: judgment. Because the Sword is Jesus and His sword of the Word is powerful. As He rides back to earth on His horse, "Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:7); "Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth" (Revelation 2:16); "The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh." (Rev 19:21) The sword will slice through all the tangled up mess we have made. In one bold stroke, Jesus will slice through all the evil and wantonness and power run amok. Problem solved.

Memo to NY Times: Get a room

NY Times's graphic depicting a silhouetted Obama against a cross is over the top even for the old grey liberal lapdog to present. Have they no shame? No, said Paul. In the time of the end, they will have no shame at all:

2 Timothy 3
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

US-Israel relations deteriorating

From Debka file today:

US ponders denying Israel arms needed for conflict with Iran
Prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu convened his inner cabinet Saturday night, March 12, to discuss the spiraling crisis with Washington and his first response. Debka's military and Washington sources report: The Obama administration is considering withholding from Israel military items urgently needed in case of a flare-up of hostilities with Iran.

Clinton warns Netanyahu US-Israeli relations at risk
The crisis in US-Israeli relations took a sharp turn for the worse Friday night, March 12, with a phone call from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warning Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu that the relationship was at risk unless Israel toed the administration's line in renewed talks with the Palestinians, Debka's exclusive sources report. Instead of ironing out misunderstandings which have marred relations, the visitor struck out on his own as America 's would-be Middle East policy overlord. Under the unrelenting pressure of the visit and its mishaps, prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his closest ally, defense minister Ehud Barak, almost came to blows.

If Debkafile's sources are correct, then the United States can expect the fulfillment of Zechariah 12:3 very soon: "It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it."

Of this gathering of enemies at Israel's door, Israel is preparing for a four-front conflict according to Debka: "Our military sources report that the Barak arms list is tailored to a potential four-front offensive against Israel launched by Iran and its allies." Talk about surrounded.

Prophecy is unrolling at a faster and faster clip. Are you ready to meet the Lord in the air? You do NOT want to be left behind. Confess your sins and repent of them (turn away) and seek the Lord as savior and ask His forgiveness. Unbelief has eternal consequences... Time is short.

To the god of fortresses, words are the bricks in the wall

In Daniel 11:38 there is an interesting portion of the coming prophecy regarding the antichrist: "But instead he will honor a god of fortresses, a god whom his fathers did not know; he will honor him with gold, silver, costly stones and treasures." In verse 39a we read about fortresses again, "He will take action against the strongest of fortresses with the help of a foreign god;"

Many, many more knowledgeable and experienced preachers than me, a layman, have had difficulty with interpreting this passage, especially the part referring to 'a god of fortresses' and who that god may be. My intent is not to interpret it, because I am not qualified. I do want to simply relate what it made me think of when I read it.

Fortresses we know from the bible are also known as 'Strongholds' which "are erected by our wounded souls to protect us and to keep pain and rejection out. When we were brokenhearted, we went into self-protection mode," writes Carlotta Waldmann. And when we are protecting self, it is easier to sink into self-delusion, or to accept the lie that satan offers. And the first brick in the stronghold is laid.

Now, God's intent is to draw us to Him, and for us to become so close to Him we are part of His body (after confessing our sins and asking for forgiveness). Satan's strategy is separation, to separate us from the truth, from Jesus and from the knowledge of our sins. To keep us from being absorbed into the fold and sealed with the Spirit. If you are stuck inside a fortress, you certainly are separated! Indeed, when satan is successful it results in a person eternally separated from God, in hell. That is the war: are you available and free to be drawn to Christ, or are you stuck behind a fortress?

One way satan separates us is through building strongholds (fortresses) in our mind. Paul defines fortresses:

"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Cor 10:3-5 (NIV)

Paul says that those old fortresses of arguments and pretensions and speculations (words, we note) are demolished through words. The Word of Truth. Thoughts held captive. Paul urges we speak boldly: "I, Paul, who am "timid" when face to face with you, but "bold" when away! (verse 1b)

Now, in Daniel, the god of fortresses to whom the antichrist pays homage is constructed through words & thoughts.

"Then the king will do as he pleases, and he will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will speak monstrous things against the God of gods; and he will prosper until the indignation is finished, for that which is decreed will be done. He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the desire of women, nor will he show regard for any other god; for he will magnify himself above them all. But instead he will honor a god of fortresses, a god whom his fathers did not know; he will honor him with gold, silver, costly stones and treasures." Daniel 11:36-38

And: "By smooth words he will turn to godlessness those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will display strength and take action." Daniel 11:32

Daniel isn't saying that the action to be taken is to take up a sword and slice every godless soul you see. Nor does it mean build churches, fight, or claim territory in some sort of territorial war. It is through words that the action is taken. It is by speaking the truth of Jesus. Paul says that the destruction of fortresses is via words and Daniel tells us that the god of fortresses is constructed through the antichrist's words. Do you still believe that "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me"? They do hurt.

First and foremost they hurt yourself. They allow satan a foothold and every wrong word and every wrong thought is a brick. Another brick in the wall. A cathedral, large as it is, is built brick by brick. So is a fortress in your mind. Every thought not taken captive is one more brick that edges its height inexorably to the top, where your soul, imprisoned, may not fly and your choice to be eternally separated from God is honored.

Christian, are you trapped in a stronghold? Even the tiniest one is the start of something big. Demolish that fortress and serve not the god of fortresses but the One True God, in whom there is no condemnation, but only love. Take a mental sledgehammer and speak firmly to satan, pulling down his speculations and arguments with the simple truth, that he has no authority over you. That you are a child of God, part of Jesus' body, and guided by the Holy Spirit who is sealed within you. Pray these words, speak these words, say them to others who need to hear them. Fortresses are built with words, the antichrist serves a god of fortresses and speaks smooth words. But they can be demolished with words too. Are you ready to speak them? All Christians are needed now to be ship-shape for the battle.

Russia gets purple snow, Bulgaria's is yellow

Southern Russia overwhelmed with purple snow
The very morning following the widely celebrated Woman's Day - people in Southern Russia could not believe their eyes when they found purple snow piled on city streets. Scientists confirmed a multi-coloured snowfall– ranging from light purple to brown – had landed in Russia's Stavropol Region. Having analysed the samples, climatologists ruled that the snow is perfectly safe.

But the experts are baffled as to why, speculating that perhaps it was full of dust from a sandstorm from Africa. Yeah, that's it. Sand from Africa.

But wait, another strange snowfall occurred in Bulgaria.

Pale-yellow snow falls in Gotse Delchev
Gotse Delchev. Pale-yellow snow falls in the town of Gotse Delchev, Southern Bulgaria, FOCUS news agency reporter announced. Instead of white the snow that falls in the town is pale-yellow, secretary of Civil Protection service Dimitar Kurtev confirmed the information saying that the most likely reason for that anomalism is that the snow has been mixed with Saharan sand. The town had witnessed such phenomenon 20 years ago when the snow had been ruddy in color.

Oh, wait, maybe it's NOT Saharan sand! After examination, they found out that the yellow snow "had nothing to do with Africa". It's heavy metals making it yellow. Yeah, that's it. I notice that they are not saying where they think the heavy metals are coming from...

Heavy metals paint snow yellow
In Sofia, authorities previously thought the color came from African sand. Bulgarian media are quoting Romanian meteorologists who rejected claims of their Bulgarian colleagues that the snow turned yellow due to the Saharan sand.  Their research discovered that the reddish powder found in the snow contained copper, iron, zinc, chrome, lead, nickel, arsenic and cadmium – metals usually found in the ground. Ion Paun of Romania's Center of Meteorology said that their charts showed that the yellow snow "had nothing to do with Africa".

I wonder what it could have had to do with? Hmmm. We see more of this, "experts baffled." As God increases His pressure on humanity to repent, His methods become increasingly supernatural and impossible to explain. Yet they will still try to explain it. That is the nature of unbelief. In Matthew 24:5-14 Jesus describes the symptoms of His coming to the disciples. The symptoms begin innocuously enough, with false teachers and rumors of wars. But as Jesus speaks you see the things that will happen become more and more of a hardship upon the world until we get into the Tribulation in Revelation and there is no explanation for what is happening except that it is God. Sun turning to sackcloth? Demon-frogs plaguing the unbelievers? Hail and fire raining down mixed with blood? God, not science.

Unbelief is powerful. Even Jesus in his home town of Nazareth who spoke as a rabbi the most gracious words which astonished the gathered, by the end they hated him and went to throw Him over a cliff! And these were the people He grew up with, spent 30 years living and loving and toiling alongside. His own brothers and sisters did not believe. The gathered knew Jesus better than anyone, and had seen or heard of His amazing miracles. Yet they refused to believe. (Luke 4:22-29)

Unbelief is powerful. But so is belief.  God does exist, and He directly intervenes in the world. He loves each one of us and knows each one of us intimately. He wants us all to come to salvation and not perish. If you are starting to wonder about these things coming on the world you are right to do so. It is a time when people need to take stock of just what they do believe. Your timely examination of your spiritual state could be the difference between eternal life and eternal separation from Our Savior. Think about it. Purple snow? Yellow snow? What kind of a sign would you need in order to believe? How about this one: listen to the heart-yearning for God: "My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God." (Psalm 84:2). That yearning, that niggle at the back of your mind about the snow or the other things happening is trying to give voice to the thought "Could it be???" Yes, it could. Pray for the light to shine in you and confess your sins. Remember, belief is powerful too.

Where everybody knows your name

In the 1980s, the Cheers television show dominated the comedic airwaves. It was hilarious and maintained its high-ratings almost throughout its historically long run, 11 years, from 1982 to 1993. Thus, its weekly entry into American living rooms meant that the theme song was destined to become entrenched into the psyche of the viewer for decades afterwards. "Where everybody knows your name" was the theme song and it goes a little something like this -

The lyrics say:
Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.

As the song played, I used to admire each attractive painting of each tinted character, and I'd yearn for the bonhomie the show promoted. Yes, I want to be where everybody knows my name. Yes, I want to be in a place where I am recognized, and loved for who I am. Yes, I want to be where they're always glad I came. Is there such a place? Yes, and it's not in a bar.

The place where everybody knows your name is heaven. And for each person either the homecoming is either joyful or fearful. There are books kept, and your name is in those books. Your deeds are kept in the books. And He knows your name - and He knows your deeds.

"And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds." Revelation 20:12

"And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:15

On the one hand, your homecoming may be brief. They will know your name but if your name is not found written, you will be thrown into torment, receiving your wish to be forever separated from Jesus. On this earth, when the person in authority opens your file, and stares at you, it is a heart-stopping moment. Have you ever been to the principal's office? And he opens your file? It makes your toes curl. Have you ever been to the doctor's office? And he opens your file? It makes your stomach drop. Have you ever been to court? And he opens your file? It makes your heart beat. This will be like that but infinitely worse.

"He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angel." Revelation 3:5

On the other hand, if you believe, confess, and repent, when they open the book and find your name in it, Jesus will confess your name to the Father and to the angels. You will be admitted permanent entry into the most glorious place possible...the place where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came.

Some art for you

I came across this while looking for art depicting Jesus opening the Lamb's Book of Life (a visual representation that has been hard to find, surprisingly.) I do not agree with the supporting text from which the art was based, which was an ascetical treatise for monasticism in Eastern Christianity. However, I do think it is a perfect pictorial representation of the growing Christian's walk toward Jesus and the demonic pitfalls and angelic encouragements along the way. I think in reality the supernatural world that is shielded from us doesn't look too far different from this...

The Ladder of Divine Ascent or The Ladder of Paradise. A 12th-century icon described by John Climacus. Monastery of St Catherine, Mount Sinai. St John Climacus described the Christian life as a ladder with thirty rungs. The monks are tempted by demons and encouraged by angels, while Christ welcomes them at the summit.

Temple Mt Groups Ask Police to Allow Passover Sacrifice

The entire article, published in the Israeli newspaper Arutz Sheva Tuesday, follows:

"Jewish organizations that promote the reestablishment of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem wrote a letter to the Jerusalem District police commander Aharon Franco asking him to allow the offering of the Passover lamb sacrifice as is proscribed by the Torah (the Bible) Petitioners stated in their letter that "the Israeli police has the the responsibility to allow the Passover sacrifice as part of its role to allow freedom of worship to anyone on the Temple Mount."

This request is made every year and every year the answer is always no. Temple Mount Faithful and the recently reconvened (2004) Sanhedrin are likely the organizations making the request, being the most actively concerned with the Temple Mount. Seven weeks ago, the Sanhedrin called for a Passover Sacrifice and called for the world to participate with them. They also announced that they had completed the altar of unhewn stones. This week they announced a first-ever International Temple Mount Awareness day. Jewish focus is definitely shifting to the Temple, Israel, and the right to worship G-d on that spot.

Opinion essays are urging more equitable division of the rights of the religious.  "Let us pray on Mount" is an opinion piece by Yitzchak Reuven slamming discriminatory anti-Jewish policy at Jerusalem’s Temple Mount published two hours ago in YNet News. He is the Director of Multimedia at the international department of The Temple Institute in Jerusalem. He writes that while "Enshrined in Israeli law are two cardinal principles of democracy: freedom of access to places of worship, and the freedom of worship to practitioners of all religions" At the same time, "Non-Muslims are simply not allowed to carry with them a Bible or prayer book and are not allowed to pray. Jews who ascend the Mount, in accordance with Jewish law (first immersing in a ritual bath, and only treading on areas that are permissible according to halacha), are singled out and discriminated against in an abusive, humiliating and derogatory fashion. They are detained at the security booth, their identification cards are inspected (not the case for non-Jews), they are given oral instructions on what they cannot do, (stop in any one spot for more than a few minutes, pray, silently move their lips or sway their bodies. Jews are even warned not to cry, sing or close their eyes)."

Just a few days ago, violence erupted again at Israel's holiest site. More and more pressure is being applied to the world's most contested piece of ground, and we know as bible readers that the pressure will only increase until hellish wars occur and then the Jews are allowed to construct the Temple. We also know that the prophetic clock will resume for the Jews and then ALL attention will be on Israel and its worship- first of the antichrist and then of the One True God. The pressure is getting unbearable, no? Bear it we must for the time is not yet.

Let us watch to see if there is spiritual softening in the hearts of those controlling the Temple Mount and allow this sacrifice. We won't have long to wait for the police's answer, Passover begins Tuesday, March 30. An answer 'yes' will undoubtedly bring violence and anguish, and a 'no' will undoubtedly bring violence and anguish. This is because, "And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it" (Zech 12:3).

O Jerusalem!

Coherently and incoherently, the Large Hadron Collider in the news again

I read several items today about the Large Hadron Collider and one made me happy but one made me sad. I have written about the LHC before, here, and here, and here. It is a huge machine that is trying to re-create the Big Bang, which ultimately would confirm tot he scientists that God does not need to exist because the universe started by a chemical explosion. Further, the sub-atomic particle the scientists are trying to find in the aftermath of the re-created Big Bang is called The God Particle. God is likely not amused. At least, He wasn't when humans did this before, at the Tower of Babel. And He isn't likely amused now.

One article noted that the Large Hadron Collider will be shut down fr a year or so because of design flaws and other problems that they need "to sort out" as the LHC lead scientist explains here. OK, fine, I was never a huge fan of the underground machine anyway. Recreating a Big Bang, no matter that the machine is under the Alps, the location would offer no protection if anything went wrong, and scientists have admitted that things could go very, very wrong.

LHC to shut down for a year to address design faults
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) must close at the end of 2011 for up to a year to address design issues, according to an LHC director. Dr Steve Myers told BBC News the faults will delay the machine reaching its full potential for two years.

This next article is the one that made me sad. Pay particular attention to the last line in the excerpt-

Woman tries to shut down Large Hadron Collider over apocalypse fears
A German woman has failed in a bid to force her country's government to halt experiments at the world's largest atom smasher which she feared would lead to the Earth's destruction. The country's highest court said that the woman — whom it didn't identify — had failed to demonstrate any connection between experiments at the CERN collider outside Geneva and the apocalypse. The Federal Constitutional Court in the western Germany city of Karlsruhe threw out the woman's appeal because she was "unable to give a coherent account of how her fears would come about."

What a tragedy! She has a captive audience whose purpose was to listen to her. She had months to prepare for her trial. She appeared with reporters at the ready to copy her words and disseminate them to the wider world. A court reporter sat there ready to transcribe every word and file them in perpetuity for anyone who would care to read it. Yet she was incoherent.

She could have explained about the lesson from the Tower of Babel ... she could have talked about God's superiority and the ways He deals with those who spit in His eye. She could have reminded them about the futility of looking for a Higgs-Boson particle that supposedly holds the Universe together when in John 1 says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God, all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made." And cementing the thought in Colossians 1:17- "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."

Our one most important job is to witness. "For you will be a witness for Him to all men of what you have seen and heard." (Acts 22:15) "but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." (Acts 1:8). We must be a bold witness!

I don't want to be too hard on the lady. I don't know her state of mind nor her circumstances. But Christian, it does remind us to be familiar enough with the Word to be able to defend it, and defend your thoughts and feelings about what the newsmakers are doing that are rebellious against God? It is the time to do that! If given an opportunity to speak to secular part of society on these topics, can you say that you rely strongly enough on the Holy Spirit to say what He wants to be said, having 'hidden the Word in your heart so you may not sin against Him'? (Ps 119:11). It is so important to study the Word so that if the time ever comes upon each one of us, we can say exactly to those assembled what the God-honoring pursuits are, honoring God coherently in the process.

Listening to the Lord

During this time of the end, many Christians feel an urgency that the Lord is wanting them to do a task of some sort. Many people I know are feeling a calling to do more... to do something. Some of these tasks He calls us to do may be large and some may be small, but He has a Plan for all of us. We who obey heed the call. As I said yesterday, it’s all hands on deck. No back seat pew-warmers allowed.

Sometimes, if you are like me, you focus on the details of the specific task before launching it. At times this is OK but other times the Lord simply wants you to take the plunge first and allow Him to lead the way. You are on a "need to know basis."

I am embarking on a task that I feel He has called me to begin: writing a book. I have many questions about the process because over the last few years the publishing industry has changed so dramatically. If I had received this call ten years ago I'd simply peck away at my typewriter, bundle the manuscript, find an agent and sell it. Not so now. Personal publishing is now more accessible to the individual than ever before, thanks to blogs and thanks to e-publishing. Indeed, 2010 has been dubbed the “Year of E-publishing.” While some questions do need to be answered prior to launching into the project, others are mere details that would hinder my progress if I linger too long on them. Last night I researched the initial questions for a while, then, tired, I went to bed still with other questions unanswered, wondering which direction to take.

I had a dream from the Lord. I was in a van or a church bus with a n older man I’d seen before, once in real life and once in another dream. I believe he is an angel. We were driving through a poor part of a city and there were many teens and young adults on the street. They were loitering and ambling, some were actually in the street and prevented us from driving until they languidly got out of the way. I noticed the man was not perturbed by this and was patient and loving through it all. As we waited and inched forward on our slow progress, I noticed he had a hardcover book on his dashboard. I picked it up and examined it, and saw that it was an e-published book. Excited, my mind formed with a million questions I was about to ask him. As I opened my mouth and turned to ask the first question, he turned to me first and began speaking.

Smiling, he simply said, “Why, my dear, you simply listen to what the Lord is telling you to do, and then do it.”

I laughed. Suddenly the labyrinth of details I’d constructed melted away. It was a wonderful reminder and I was humbled that He took the time to remind me. He will lead, the answers will come at each stage of your task as He wills. Listen, and do. Christian, are you listening? That is all you need, listen and then do it. Each task is important for the Lord. Each one of us is important to complete our taks. Each one of us is part of His plan. Listen, and do.

It is just that simple.

Signs: are you diligently learning and looking?

Originally in Norwegian, this is a Google-translated article:

"Crop Circles" on the ice in Arna
Friday night as Ole Johan Hansen (77) a mysterious light in the harbor Arna in Bergen. The next morning was a beautiful and inexplicable pattern appeared right there.

"Want was about two feet long, and was not like Noer I've seen before. Since the clock was 11 at night and I was not sure if the ice is safe, I tried to look in my binoculars if there was someone there. I could not see anyone, "says Ole Johan Hansen (77). Hansen lives just off the waterfront in Arna harbor. When he got up Saturday morning, he could hardly believe what he saw. During the night has a symmetrical pattern formed on the ice. The pattern arises from about eight holes in the ice. According to Hansen range rings around 50 meters to the northeast, and 300 feet the other direction. Neither Hansen or sambygding John Halvor Sæle (58) have seen the holes that the pattern arises from before Saturday morning.

- The pattern is amazing good. I have never seen the like, said Sæle. Meteorologist Geir Ottar Fagerlid admitted to parish news that he was thinking in the natural path when he saw the pictures, and that pattern is reminiscent of the mysterious phenomenon of "corn circles". That there should be something inexplicable, sits deep inside. My theory was first and foremost that the rings can be created by hot water, for example, from sewage, which is the ice to melt. But it is hard to say. Beautiful it is in any case, says Fagerlid.

- Created by meteorite? John Halvor Sæle believe the rings can be created by a meteorite. "It was the first thing I thought. I think at least not that the holes are created by people. For that, they are too big and too far from shore. It is totally inexplicable," says Sæle. Astrophysicist Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard confirms that the pattern of the theory may have been caused by a small meteorite. But this is unlikely, as a meteorite would probably have been observed by many, and been seen as a bright streak in the sky before it ended in Arna.

Can come from high and low tide? "It's all very fascinating, I've never seen before," says Ødegaard. "But something supernatural I do not think it is. It is likely that the symmetrical pattern become that there were holes in the ice after isfiskere, and it has formed a concentric pattern around when the water rises and falls at the high and low tide. It is not unusual, although they are never as symmetric as this," says Ødegaard.

Unexplained light? "The light may have come from someone who was out on the ice and fished. But I can not see that there are some tracks in the snow. The second theory is that what I saw was a reflection of street lights across the bay. But now it has become dark again, and I can not see any light reflection," says Ole Johan Hansen. Astrophysicist Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard has no theory about what it was. "The light can not certainly not have come from a meteorite. A meteorite that still lights up when it hits the ground, has a force of at least 1000 atomic bombs." says Ødegaard.

I have been considering the extraordinariness of this interview/article since I read it last night. What it boils down to is this:

Fishermen with water expertise can't explain what they saw. Residents with historical memory can't explain it. Astrophysicists with knowledge of the skies can't explain it. Something happened that cannot be explained.

The consequences of man's over-reliance on science as the answer to everything are coming to the fore now. Man has thought wrongly for too long, that since he can explain things through science and logic, it means he is in control. But in the dim recesses of our global history, who could explain the Red Sea parting? A flood that covers the whole world? A bush that burns yet is not consumed? Frogs coming up out of nowhere and everywhere? Rivers turning to blood? A star that leads three wise men to the exact house where Jesus lay? A man who was dead for three days in the tomb, rising and walking? Who can explain how the pyramids were built? These events are recorded in history, seen by eyewitnesses, and some even are evident to this day, yet they defy scientific explanation.

Among other methods, like the prophets for example, God has also spoken to us through signs. God said He would speak to us in the end days through symptoms and events and signs. He speaks, He punishes, He confirms, He demonstrates through signs. He confirmed the Apostles' work through signs. In Mark 16:20 it is written, "Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it." In Hebrews 2:4 it is written, "God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will." The Geneva Study bible explains, "This is the true purpose of miracles. Now they are called signs, because they appear as one thing, and represent another: and they are called wonders, because they represent some strange and unaccustomed thing: and powers because they give us a glimpse of God's mighty power."

We understand and accept these signs, rely on them even:

Why is that we do not accept these signs:

(AFP/Getty image) Chilean earthquake, building split in half

Wave hitting cruise ship, killing two and injuring many others.

Fireball frenzy this week in Duluth, MN

Huge solar filament growing, could produce a coronal mass ejection. Those with solar telescopes are advised to monitor, says spaceweather.com.

Why does secular man, and even believers, not understand those signs, especially since He already told us He would send earthquakes and roaring and tossing seas and signs in the sky?

Jesus told us to watch, and it is my opinion one of the reasons to watch is to accumulate context and understanding over the long haul. Many things use another language, sports for example. If you watch a basketball game for the first time, you listen to the announcers who are speaking in English, but there is a second language as a subtext going on that at first you do not understand. You do not understand the signals the players send each other, nor the signs that the ref uses. Learning the language of the game takes time, and understanding grows with each hour you put into it. You also benefit by building up a history and a context. You remember that a certain play had never been used before, or that a certain team usually plays a certain way against another team. You learn the intricacies. If you tune in for the first time late in the game, you don't know what in the world is going on.

Reading the bible is the same. It speaks to us in plain English, (or whatever your language is), but it also speaks to us in metaphors, parables, poetry, and signs. The more you read, the more you learn. When you see a sign in the world you are more able to relate it to what God has said. You remember the great earthquake that swallowed Korah's army- the ground splitting open and swallowing all those assembled, their animals and households too. And then the earth closed back up again! You remember how diligently the Wise Men of Persia learned the signs of the sun and moon and stars and listened to what those signs were saying.

Was the ice circle in Arna a sign? Or just methane? Was it part of the cadre of signs and wonders that God said He would send? Or was it simply a one-time natural phenomena? You may not ever be sure, but this is for certain, you will never know if you do not learn the language of the bible and the signifying language that God said He would speak to us in these times. Are you one of these Christians who say that the times of signs is over,  dying out with the Apostles? That there is always a "natural explanation" of the things coming upon the world? You are missing half the language in which our Savior reaches out to us. Take the time (again) to read the 4 gospels, and Timothy, James, Daniel, Revelation...and  the other books in which God performed signs and in which He said more would come. Learn the signs, and then look up! For our Redemption draweth nigh!
