Strange noises in the sky: hums, booms, and other apocalyptic escapades

People have been asking on different blog entries if I am going to address the current spate of sky rumbles/sky quakes/ mysterious booms as they are variously known. I don't have much to say about them, and I can't really relate them to the bible because the bible does not specifically address them as a warning sign.

The noises are usually a low pitched hum that veritably drives the residents crazy, or a boom from the sky that people liken to a sonic boom. When they occur, the authorities receive dozens to hundreds of phone calls asking if there had been an earthquake. In most cases, the boom is not related to a military activity nor aeronautic exercise, not to a quake, and not to drilling or explosives. These things are checked out and the usual explanation is usually absent, leaving residents to wonder what is the cause of the noise. That's why they are termed mysterious.

I did mention the latest one at Costa Rica, here. I also mentioned the hum at Windsor Ontario, Canada when it occurred, here, and also linked to one of the most persistent hums that is actually plaguing a village at the UK, here.

The Costa Rica boom was pretty startling to many. I'd written: "Last week one happened in Costa Rica that the entire nation heard. When I saw the news come across the alternative news sites, I was startled by how penetrating the hum seemed to have been, and how utterly startled the whole country was. After a day or so, the regular, mainstream news sites and newspapers started carrying news of the strange boom."

Ironically, this very month there was a mysterious boom in the county where I live. "Still no explanation for mysterious booms in Madison County."
"Two weeks after loud explosions shook homes and caused a lockdown at the Madison County Jail, authorities are still puzzled about what caused the booming sounds that sparked a flurry of 911 calls to the county’s emergency officials. Almost a dozen calls came into the county’s 911 center shortly before 8 p.m. Jan. 3. The calls came from a wide swath of the county, from east of Danielsville to Colbert, according to Camp.“We found a sort of pattern developed — a pattern of numerous booms — not of it occurring in one particular place. It was heard at different locations and it even shook buildings. The fire department and sheriff’s office rode around and couldn’t find any damage,” he said. During his investigation, Camp ... called the University of Georgia’s geology department, which has seismic sensors in the area. There was no evidence of earthquakes in Madison County at the time the explosions were heard, Camp said. One of the explosive sounds was heard near the Madison County Jail. Sheriff Kip Thomas said the facility was placed on lockdown because no one knew what was happening. “There’s no explanation,” he said."

That's how it goes. A BOOM! And then after investigation, no explanation.

As for the hums, they also are eerie. I suspect many of those have a legitimate explanation, or are hoaxes. But I am particularly intrigued by this one in Alberta Canada because it is official men working for the government who are obviously startled by the sound and recorded it on their equipment. I always lend more credence to a strange phenomenon if it is discussed by or acknowledged by authorities. As a matter of fact, the Malaysia Ministry seeks recordings on the sky noises to collect data. The article is excerpted as follows:

"The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry wants to collect audio recordings of the purported strange noises in the sky heard by residents of Kota Samarahan, Sarawak. In a Sinar Harian report, Deputy Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusuf said the ministry was collecting as much "evidence" as possible on the bizarre happening so it could submit its report to the National Space Agency (Angkasa) for further investigation. "This incident is no laughing matter. We hope those who have audio or video recordings of the noises can come forward so we can investigate," said Fadillah, adding that any evidence can be sent to the Petrajaya parliamentary service centre in Jalan Astana, Kuching. Residents of Kota Samarahan claimed to have heard noises resembling "loud snorings" in the wee hours of Jan 11 and Jan 12, triggering speculations and apocalyptic theories among the fascinated."

Huffington Post reported on the strange sky noises thus, and it pretty much sums up how I feel about them:

"UPDATE: The strange sounds phenomenon continues to spread, with videos popping up from Canada and around the world featuring similar noises. The weird sounds have allegedly been recorded in a number of cities, including Winnipeg, Chicago and Glasgow. While many viewers are intrigued, others are equally skeptical about the strange sounds. Is this the latest Internet meme? The Huffington Post Canada first spotted a video recorded in an Alberta forest featuring bizarre sounds on Jan. 16. The video – which was originally uploaded on Jan. 13 – has already received more than 1.2 million views."

Someone with an interest in the issue created an interactive google map and a list with links to videos and recordings of all the sounds to date that have been reported, updated from when the strange noises seemed to ramp up to global consciousness in summer 2011 through January 21, 2012 with 82 reports already. The map  is here. I tested the site through Norton and it is safe.

When HuffPo posted the original youtube vid of the Alberta forest noise, there were many comments, of course, with the range of mockers, serious thinkers and everything in between. This comment in particular comment caught my eye: "Sounds like hell opening up”.

That is my opinion exactly. In the Costa Rica strange boom essay I concluded this way:

"When I read that the volcano began its newest eruption I thought of the strange hum in that same nation. I thought of the veil, and all the activity that is going on behind it. The principalities, powers, and dominions are fighting furiously for control of the earth. The demonic powers know the bible's outcome but their evil is that they refuse to believe it. So they fight. God sends angels to do His bidding, and ultimately, we know that God is sovereign and will prevail. The conclusion is foregone. But the activity behind our realm of hearing and seeing is furious and ongoing. What is that hum? I do not know. But it was heard by many, and as God lifts His protective hand from the world perhaps the earth's people will be hearing more."

Weigh in with your theory, by all means.

  1. The Alberta Canada one is a fake, they used the same audio from the Ukraine video. You can tell because as you watch it you will hear the same sounds of birds and children. It was dubbed. Watch the Ukraine one and then watch the Alberta one.

BUT, the point is, this stuff is still happening. I wonder if the Chile one could be an underground bomb test??? And if the ones in the US and Europe could be underground drilling (bomb shelters? Underground cities?) It sounds crazy, I know. But in the last few years they built a huge underground network under the Denver "New World" Airport too.

Are the government officials expecting a nuclear strike from Iran? Or N. Korea? Is the US going to be wiped out soon? Who knows? The Lord knows!

But yes, it could be a secret project, a UFO/demonic sound, or something else. But I would say that, for sure, these are not all hoaxes.

  2. I looked at the map of occurances that you posted, backed it up to a view of the world map and found it very interesting to note that the greatest concentrations of occurances were in the US and Europe. I'm not sure what that could mean, but it sure is strange.

  3. Romans 8:22 -- "We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time."

Anonymous you may have a point. I've always considered that notion (carried through elsewhere in the bible too in other verses- Joel 1:18, Luke 19:40) as metaphoric. At this stage of the Age of Grace, as it comes to a close, who knows? The strange noises certainly DO sound like groans!!

  4. Google 'HAARP' and 'GWEN' towers- that seemed to lead me to some possible conclusions

  5. After seeing videos of these noises (none have occurred in my area, or even my state that I know of), I also noticed comments about them being the trumpets being sounded, heralding all the last events before Jesus' return. Do you (the page owner and blogger) think that is possible?

    ReplyDelete
  6. That is also something I was thinking about (I posted the comment about if you think they are the Trumpets). I was thinking it could also be the Earth groaning, under all the wickedness and "acceleration of the times" in these last days. That is another thing that came to me as I watched the videos.

  7. Hi Anonymous, I am more inclined to think the noises that are not hoaxes are either manifestations of the earth groaning as you mentioned, or the demons making noises that we can hear on this side of the veil. Or something demonic in any case.

I do not think they are trumpets. When God sounds His trumpet, all those who are supposed to hear it, will hear it. There will be no mystery and no room for doubt. Additionally, the trumpets are judgments, occurring in Revelation, and we have not started judgment time. The trumpets sounded in Revelation have not blown yet.

  8. its a war, between the power elite and the gaurdians from the inner earth, both believe they are fighting for the greater good, everyone else, all of us who are hearing these noises and wondering where they are coming from, we are colateral damage, expendable.

  9. Anonymous, I agree we are expendable to satan. But those of us in Christ will never be snatched out of His hand. He is taking care of each one of us and will not lose even one. John 10:28

  10. There is absolutely no way to ascertain of these sounds are supernatural or not, simply by watching/listening to a video on the internet. I was in western Wisconsin a few weeks ago at a friend's house and heard similar noises, they waxed and wanned over a couple hours and suddenly stopped. Perhaps it might have something to do with the recent solar storm, or it could certainly be a sign of the end of an age, the world. I think it's for more likley to be something that can be explained. It seems strange that the spirit world would suddenly open up to us, that God would allow this. I even heard a video on Youtube claiming that if you heard these sounds, you would become possessed which is ludicrous. Any clear thinking Christian should know God would not allow that to happen.

  11. Hi Anonymous,

I agree that just listening to the sounds does not cause demonic possession, that IS ludicrous. However, the demonic is all around. It's not sudden. 2 Kings shows us the moment when Elisha asked God to open Elisha's servant's eyes and the servant could see multitudes of angelic chariots waiting to join the battle that Elisha's human people on the ground were about to engage in.

We also know from Eph 6:12 that "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Last, satan is god of this world (2 Cor 4:4).

I think it would be doing a disservice to the Word to forget that the unseen spiritual, which includes the good angels as well as demonic, is all around us. In the Tribulation, those invisible signs will turn visible. God will allow the antichrist to come with all lying signs and wonders. (2 Thess 2:9). In Rev 9:2, God allows the abyss to be opened, the place where the demons inhabiting the Gadarene demoniac begged not to be sent, and the demons flying out of the abyss are so innumerable that they are like a smoke that darkens the sun. Of course, there will be other supernatural things happening that God allows and that will be seen by the people, for example God saving the Israelites in the Ezekiel 38-39 Gog Magog battle. (Ez 28:33)

So wouldn't be too dismissive of the fact that these sounds may have a supernatural origin. They may not, of course, but they may, seeing that the signs Jesus told us to watch for of the Tribulation are nearing our horizon, and which means the rapture is even closer....

  12. 30Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

  13. I just did a Google search on "booms heard in Madison county". Now, I did this because last night authorities; here in Madison county Texas, were baffled by reports of loud booms heard throughout Madison and surrounding counties. Once again no source for sounds could be found.
Signs of the end of the age? Maybe. Demonic battling? Possible. Earth's groanings? Could be.
I personally hold a amillennial view of end times prophecy; (the belief that the end time events began the day our Lord became victorious over death upon mount Calvery), so it may be any number of things. All I do know is, it's strange, unexplained, and happening with greater frequency. Oh yeah, is it just me or does it seem to be more frequent in January?
    God bless you all!

    1. Hi Anonymous, I searched twitter for variants of boom, PA and stowe but no one else is talking about it. What did it sound like? (no profanity please)

    2. I just awoke from these strange booms in Stowe, PA too
This is the 2nd time they sound like trumpets playing really loud. But it can't be trumpets because they're coming from the sky ._.

    3. Hi Anonymous, that definitely is weird. I don't know whether it can be or it can't be, but God knows!

  15. Thank you for this well-written article with its links. A compilation video of the strange noises in the recent years prompted me to do the search that led me here, and I appreciate seeing a religious writer giving deliberate and thorough due to natural or technological explanations.
I know them as sky quakes, from exhaustive reading on the paranormal/mysterious. Part of my web search was to establish what other people might be calling them, to better gather news sources.
I admit they were never of particular interest in my readings, but they repeatedly popped up. What I can relay to you is they are not a new thing. Records that seem to reference this exact thing, described as prolonged thunder on a clear day, or great moans and so forth, go back centuries. Were my books not packed in storage right now, I'd reference the references, but alas. The point is, this seems to rule out technology as a cause, or some kind of coming event. I do realize that when speaking of prophecy and the divine, time scales are conveniently considered subjective, so I'll drop that point.
The Earth, however, has no known way to make sound independent of other activity. Sound is pressure waves, so one would expect that pressure to be coming from a quake, volcanic activity, or the release of underground gasses through some natural vents. Considering the "trumpeting" nature of some of the sounds, the last option doesn't sound too bad! But to create a volume that could be heard over such broad areas would necessitate a literally explosive release of gas, and would be nigh deafening to people closest to it. So geological events seem ruled out.

My own thinking is it is something incredibly exotic to current understanding, such as a quantum effect, dimensional interaction, the passage of dark energy/matter, or a reshaping of space-time, which would displace massive volumes of air in a similar ripple effect as dropping a bowling ball into a swimming pool, with us living in the very narrow surface of that water and seeing limited effects.

I'm afraid that was very long, I'm sorry. Maybe you have/will write a follow-up article to this one? I'm off to search for more. Thank you again for the article. Peace and truth be with you.

    1. Hi Collin,

Thanks for your great comment. You offered a lot of food for thought.

I liked your phrase 'dimensional interaction.' It was one of the possibilities I mentioned, froma biblical stance. The realms of the Lord and the realms of the humans, bumping up against eachother in a way that led to leak-through, as the scene in 2 Kings 6:17 when Prophet Elisha had asked the LORD to open his servant's eyes so he could see the myriad chariots of angels at the ready for spiritual warfare, or the Mount of Transfiguration, when all of a sudden men from another dimension appeared (Moses and Elijah, Matthew 17:3).

I'll do another blog essay on it today, as there has been another incident over an American city which has spooked many thousands of people. There were interesting noises a month ago in Canada that authorities attributed to frost quakes, also. Thanks for the comment and the prompting.
